Roy Wiegand’s death caused by a bicycle accident
The sad death of Roy Wiegand occurred during his selfless endeavor “Roy’s Ride”, a 2,500 mile bike ride from Los Angeles through Mexico, San Francisco and back to Southern California. He embarked on this momentous adventure to raise money for the Navajo Nation’s clean water and solar energy project, motivated by his compassion and desire to make a difference.
Roy was born in Las Vegas with a keen interest in charity. He was riding his bicycle on the dirt shoulder of a two-lane road north of Los Angeles when he was struck and killed by a pickup truck. This tragic disaster claimed the life of a gifted trumpet player and dedicated philanthropist, leaving family, friends and the entire charity community in despair.
Chris Haller, Wiegand’s riding partner, was there that awful day and witnessed the death of his close friend. The tragedy had a huge effect on all who knew and loved Roy, who was a great musician and a caring spirit dedicated to improving the lives of others.
