A running back who made his college football debut for the Oregon Ducks in 2014 and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. However, he impressed the coaches during practice and camp and fought for a starting position alongside Byron Marshall and Thomas Tyner. All three were classified as co-starters at running back to begin the 2014 season. Additionally, he had 138 yards in a win against Washington the following week. In the next game, against Arizona State, he ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Against Oregon State on November 27, he ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns, along with 51 receiving yards. In the Alamo Bowl against TCU, he ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-41 three-overtime loss. As a sophomore, Freeman ran for 1,836 yards and 17 touchdowns while also catching 26 passes for 348 yards and two scores. He led the Pac-12 in rushing touchdowns this season.
