Rudrankksh Patil is an Indian sports shooter. He shot to fame after winning the 10m air rifle gold medal at the 2022 ISSF World Rifle/Pistol Championships in Cairo and qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He became the second Indian to win 10m air rifle gold at the World Championships after 2006 Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra won the title. At the age of 18, Patil won one gold medal each in the men’s 10m air rifle shooting event, becoming the world’s number one. World Championships and ISSF President’s Cup. He won two gold medals in individual and mixed team events during the 2023 Cairo World Cup and two bronze medals in the same event at the 2023 Bhopal World Cup.

Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil was born on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 (20 years old; as of 2023) from Thane, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. He went to school in Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane. He was very athletic as a child and as a teenager his parents often sent him to summer camps to participate in different sports such as swimming, table tennis, chess, badminton, skating and football. Patil began his shooting journey when he was thirteen. His father, Deputy Commissioner of Police Balasaheb, was invited to inaugurate a shooting range in Thane. There, coach Snehal Papalkar encouraged Balasaheb (Rudrankksh) that he should try his hand at shooting. Thereafter, he started training under Papakar at the Dronacharya Sports Academy. Interestingly, he quit the sport just a month after joining it. In an interview, talking about the time he quit filming, he said,
When I started shooting at Dronacharya Sports Academy, I didn’t have much interest. I left it after a few weeks. When you say shooting, you imagine rolling on the floor, aiming, and stuff like paintball, but it’s actually the opposite. It’s really boring to stand in the same place for so many hours. “
But at his mother’s insistence, he came back. Soon Patil was winning school competitions at local and national levels. In 2017, he started training under the guidance of Ajit Patil. During a national school competition, he met Ajit Patil, a coach from Kolhapur who had trained Tejaswini Sawant and Rakhi National team veterans such as Rahi Sarnobat. There, Rudrankesh’s parents convinced Ajit to move to Thane to coach Rudrankesh full-time. Incidentally, Ajit was going through a financial crisis and found it difficult to stay afloat, so he accepted their offer. The pair spent the first few months training at a training ground in the western suburbs, an hour’s drive from Tarn. They then started training at the shooting range of a school run by Thane People’s Education Society Trust. It was a crude, dimly lit shooting range with manual targets. Describing the facility in an interview, Patil said,
This is a very basic facility. The targets were manual and the lights were not up to standard… so we set ourselves a lane to install new automatic targets first and then use some of the race winnings to install new lights. “

In 2021, Rudrankksh Patil won a silver medal at the 64th National Shooting Championship (NSCC) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

He won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle at the 2021 ISSF Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru. In May 2022, he won the gold medal in the 10-meter category at the 2022 ISSF Youth World Cup in Suhl, Germany. Patil, Parth Makhia and Umahesh Madaneni also won gold in the World Cup men’s air rifle team.

After that, he broke through to the adult group. He finished seventh in the men’s 10-meter air rifle competition at the Baku Shooting World Cup and eleventh at the Kallio World Cup. In October 2022, Patil won the 10-meter air rifle gold medal at the 36th Indian National Games in Gujarat, defeating Punjab’s Arjun Babuta 17-7.

In the same month, Patil won the gold medal in the 10m event at the 2022 ISSF World Rifle/Pistol Championships in Cairo, Egypt, earning India a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Patil scored a dramatic 17-15 victory over Italian Danilo Denis Sollazzo in the final. At the championships, Patil also won the gold medal for India in the 10m air rifle team along with Arjun Babuta and Kiran Ankush Jadhav. This is Patil’s first time participating in the World Championships. This feat made him the second Indian shooter to win the men’s 10m Air Rifle World Championship gold after Abhinav Bindra in 2006.

In December 2022, Patil defeated Italian player Danilo Sollazzo to win the gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle final of the 2022 ISSF Presidents Cup in Cairo, Egypt. With this win, Patil received the ISSF Gold Label Award for Sportsman of the Year in the category. Patil was ranked second in the ISSF rankings before the Presidents Cup. The gold medal helped Patil become world number one. Ranked #1 in the ISSF 10m Air Rifle Shooters Ranking. In February 2023, Patil won the 10-meter air rifle gold medal at the 2023 ISSF World Cup in Cairo, defeating Germany’s Maximilian Ulbrich 16-8. He partnered Narmada Raju to win the mixed team gold in the 10m air rifle and posted one of the highest mixed event qualifying scores at the World Cup (635.8). In March 2023, Patil won a bronze medal in the 10-meter air rifle at the 2023 ISSF World Cup in Bhopal. He also won a bronze medal in the mixed team air rifle event along with Narmada Nithin Raju.

In September 2023, Patil, Aishwari Pratap Singh Tomar and Divyansh Singh Panwar won the Men’s 10 for India at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Air rifle team gold medal. Rudrankesh is the highest scorer among the trio. With this feat, Patil and Tomar also qualified for the men’s 10m air rifle individual finals. Patil finished fourth in the men’s 10-meter air rifle individual final with a score of 208.7.

- Apart from sports, Patil excelled in academics as well. He scored more than 90% in the ICSE board Class 12 examination. In an interview, he expressed his eagerness to appear for the UPSC examination.
- In an interview, he revealed that he is a big foodie. In an interview, he talked about the same, saying:
I consider myself a big foodie. So, no matter where I go to compete, the first thing I do is try the local food. So, good food has always been my goal. I have to control my diet before certain races, but the end of the race is always exciting because I get to try different things. I don’t have a favorite but I am a huge non-vegan lover. “
At one point he revealed that whenever he got stuck during a game, he would think about what was cooking in the kitchen to relieve stress. He also said that eating is one of his greatest hobbies. In fact, his mother used food to lure him into shooting practice at first.
