The couple, who have been married for 14 years, have since refused to discuss the matter further, with Eamonn posting about the FA Cup final online while Ruth spent time with her mother Joan.

But according to new reports from the Daily Mail, Ruth ‘orchestrated’ the break-up and Eamonn was left devastated by the split.

It is believed that it was Ruth who accepted the simple statement and Eamonn wanted no part of it, refusing to sign.

The site claims Eamonn ‘told friends he didn’t want to get involved’ and ‘Ruth could do whatever she wanted but keep him out of it’.

The statement ended up simply reading: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed that their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Although sources said they were ‘committed to making the split amicable’, Eamonn had already left the family home for a property nearby.

The couple have a son together, 22-year-old Jack.

Ruth was initially believed to be taking time off from Loose Women this week in light of the news, with Eamonn expected to appear on GB News today to address the issue.

However, he was replaced in the morning line-up instead, with Nana Akua and Micahel Portillo coming on for Eamonn and Isabel Webster.

The once power couple, who were also the presenting duo of This Morning until 2020, are believed to have split up as their careers went in different directions.

Sources said the added pressure of Eamonn’s long-term problems was also starting to take its toll.

Ruth recently helped nurse her husband back to good health after a medical scare and fall that left him in the hospital for some time.

Although the pair have not been seen together for over two years, Ruth shared the news about Eamonn in a magazine interview last week.

A few days ago, the 64-year-old Loose Women welcomed fans saying: “I look at Eamonn, who has had health problems and back problems, and you realize how important your health is.

“I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope.

“He’s doing physiotherapy but maybe he needs to accept that it might never be 100 per cent accurate.”
