Ruturaj Gaikwad was born on Friday, January 31, 1997 (27 years old in 2024) in Pune, Maharashtra. His star sign is Aquarius. Ruturaj started playing at a young age and he used to practice and play at the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune. From there he started playing for the Maharashtra national team and was eventually selected for the India A team and the Chennai Super Kings.

Rutulagi started playing at the Vengsarkar Cricket Academy in Pune. Soon after, he started playing for Maharashtra and also started playing for Maharashtra’s U-16 and U-19 teams. He made his debut for Maharashtra in first-class cricket in the 2016-2017 Ranji Trophy. In 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for Maharashtra in the Inter-State Twenty20 Championship. In February 2017, he made his A-level debut for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. In December 2018, he was bought by Chennai Super Kings at an auction. Chennai Super Kings bought him for a base price of Rs 20 lakh to play in the 2019 Indian Premier League. In August 2019, he was included in the India Blue squad for the 2019–2020 Duleep Trophy. In September 2020, Ruturaj played for Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Capitals, where he scored 5 runs off 10 balls. Delhi Capitals won the match by 44 runs.
He made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on 28 July 2021. He made his ODI debut against South Africa at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on 6 October 2022. On 28 November 2022, he scored 43 against Shiva Singh in Maharashtra’s penultimate innings of the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh; Gaikwad hit seven consecutive sixes after the fifth ball of the innings turned into a no-ball, while also hitting a six off a free throw.

He led the Indian cricket team to the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Ahead of the 17th season of IPL, Ruturaj Gaikwad took over the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings from Mahendra Singh Dhoni. On April 8, 2024, he scored a half-century against the Kolkata Knight Riders, becoming the first Chennai Super Kings captain to achieve this feat in the last five years.

- Ruturaj’s performances in domestic tournaments helped him to earn a place in the India Blue Team. In June 2019, he scored 187 not out in a match between India A and Sri Lanka A. This performance caught the attention of many and helped him to earn a place in the India Blue Team.
- Rutulagi was selected by CSK for the 2020 Indian Premier League in the UAE, but he tested positive for Covid-19 and could not play in CSK’s first match. Rutulagi returned to training on September 21, 2020 after his recovery.
