Ryan Reynolds Recalls Meeting 'Friend and Favorite Actor’ Hugh Jackman in Touching Tribute: 'I Was a Nervous Mess'

Deadpool and Wolverine may have been friends for years, but nothing compares to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s love!

Continuing his streak of sharing on Instagram, he pays tribute to every actor who appeared in the duo’s hit film Deadpool & WolverineReynolds, 47, wrote a note for Jackman detailing his first impression of the actor when they met more than a decade ago.

Reynolds began the post on Sunday, August 18, recalling the moment he and Jackman decided to bring their latest Marvel film to the big screen.

“On August 14, 2022, @thehughjackman stopped his car to call me,” the actor wrote. “He had a bad week…he had the flu, two flat tires, and some random idiot egged his house. But what happened next, happened fast. He told me he wanted Wolverine back.”

“Months later, not only did he bring Wolvie back into the light of day, he would (finally) wear the iconic yellow suit,” Reynolds added, referring to the costume that Jackman, 55, wears in the comics, in the film.

Reynolds went on to say that he and the film’s director, Shawn Levy, “felt a TON of pressure” while working on the film — though they “didn’t talk about it much.”

The actor-director duo were “worried about how we were bringing these characters into the MCU” and “worried about all of our secret characters STAYING secret — along with so many moving parts,” but Jackman allayed their concerns.

“… when Hugh stepped onto the set in THAT SUIT… everyone knew something special was going on. I remember thinking everything was going to be okay,” Proposal said the actor.

“With months of filming and 100 years of editing and post-production, I had a front row seat to WOLVERINE. I watch and learn from my friend and favorite actor,” Reynolds continued, before joking, “Two things can be true: 1) Sometimes I eat too much sugar and secretly water his balls so I can taste something. And 2) I can be a fan and a friend at the same time.”

Reynolds then went back in time to August 2022, recalling the moment he first met Jackman on set in 2009. X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Sydney 2007.

“At that time he was already a movie star, and I walked onto the set as a supporting actor,” the actor wrote. “Showing up in the middle of a production is not too different from starting a new school. I was nervous.”

“Film sets can have a terrifying power imbalance and I remember seeing how he treated every member of the crew with genuine respect and appreciation,” he continued. “He proved that the term ‘filmmaker’ is not just for people whose name is on the poster.”

The star began her closing tribute by writing that she “doesn’t know anyone more thoughtful and classy than Hugh.”

“He will do anything for someone he loves. He will do anything for someone he just met,” he wrote. “In Deadpool and Wolverine, Hugh didn’t just make Wolverine fans’ dreams come true. He also made MY dreams come true. He is Man X.”

Reacting to the long and heartfelt tribute, Jackman revealed that Reynolds’ words touched his heart. “And… I’m crying. Again,” he wrote on Instagram Stories.

Deadpool & Wolverine it’s currently in theaters.
