SK Bhagavan (1933-2023) was a famous Indian filmmaker, producer and actor who directed several Kannada films under the name Dorai-Bhagavan, in collaboration with B. Dorairaj. On February 20, 2023, SK Bhagavan passed away due to geriatric diseases.

Bhagavan paved the way for his acting career by joining the Hirannaiah Mitra Mandali troupe. In 1956, he worked as an assistant director on Kannada film writer Kanagal Prabhakara Shastry’s film Bhagyodaya. In 1967, he co-directed the Kannada film Rajadurgada Rahasya with AC Narasimha Murthy.

Later, he collaborated with director B. Dorairaj to form the Dorai-Bhagavan duo. Dorai-Bhagavan is known for directing several Kannada blockbusters including “Kasturi Nivasa” (1971), “Eradu Kanasu” (1974), “Bayaludaari” (1977), “Chandanada Gombe” (1979), “Gaalimaatu” (1981), “Hosa Belaku” (1982) and “Benkiya” Bell (1983).

The duo also directed James Bond style films such as Goa Dalli CID 999 (1968), Operation Jackpot Nalli CID 999 (1969) and Operation Diamond Racket (1978). The duo’s last film was Baalondu Chaduranga (1995), starring Saikumar and Sudharani. In 2019, Bhagavan returned to direct his 50th film Aaduva Gombe, starring Sanchari Vijay and Anant Nag.
