Hairstyle like Sabrina Carpenter’s look at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards work.
For the awards show, the 25-year-old “Espressa” singer teamed up with hairstylist Evanie Frausto, who used Redken products to give the pop star flowing “Old Hollywood” curls and voluminous bangs. (Carpenter was recently named the brand’s first global hair care ambassador on Sept. 9.)
If you’re wondering how to recreate the pro’s work, especially Carpenter’s bangs, just know that it took hours — and a lot of hairspray — to perfect.
“We started six hours before the glam,” Frausto said in a press release, adding that he first put Carpenter’s signature curtain bangs in a roller and let them “sit” in place until it was time for her to get ready.

When the actual styling process began, Frausto started with his signature blowout, but with a “red carpet twist” inspired by Marilyn Monroe and Madonna glamour.
“We cut her hair so that it lay on her shoulders. I then dampened Sabrina’s hair with water and applied Redken Volume Maximizer on top from root to tip, brushing through with a round brush,” said the pro.
To achieve the desired volume, Frausto then placed roller clips in sections of Carpenter’s hair. He also separated other areas around the hairline and below the ends and used a 1-inch figaro before switching to a smaller one for tighter curls.
After all the pins were removed, Frausto went in with Redken Dry Texture Spray and brushed her hair to “keep it soft and sexy.” Then the Redken Brushable Hairspray, a humidity-proof spray that controls everything, held it all together.

Carpenter’s hair matched her makeup, which consisted of glowing skin, rosy cheeks, ruby red lips and velor lashes by Carolina Gonzalez. It also complemented her three outfits, all styled by Jared Ellner.
The former Disney star walked the carpet for the first time in a vintage Bob Mackie beaded gown from Tab Vintage, which Madonna wore to the 1991 Oscars.
She then performed a medley of “Please Please Please,” “Espresso” and “Taste” in a custom Victoria’s Secret bodysuit adorned with 18,500 crystal beads and glittering kiss marks, before ending the evening in a 1996 Gucci by Tom Ford lace minidress, also from Tab Vintage, for the afterparty.
Carpenter’s night was as big as her hair and ended with the hitmaker accepting her first Moon Person Award for Song of the Year for “Espresso.”
