Safiyaan Sharif made his cricket debut in September 2011 against Namibia in the 2011–13 ICC Intercontinental Cup at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek. He has since played two more Group A games against Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup one-day tournament. During the tour, Safiyaan Sharif also played in four Twenty20 matches against Namibia. In these matches, he managed to take 8 wickets. On average, he concedes around 10.37 runs per wicket. His best performance in these matches was taking 3 wickets for 29 runs.

In May 2018, English team Derby County Cricket Club signed Safyaan Sharif to play with them in the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup and the 2018 T20 Blast Championship. Safiyaan Sharif has been named in the Scotland squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers in the UAE in September 2019. He led Scotland to 13 eliminations in seven games throughout the tournament.
