Sar Yusuf

Selim Yousuf, also known as Sal Yousuf, is an English actor, writer, stand-up comedian and voice actor. He is best known for his role as “Simon” in the Kannada film French Biriyani.

Wiki/Biography

Sal Yusuf was born in London, England in 1969 (now 51 years old; 2020). Sal developed a keen interest in creative arts during his childhood. His love for art led him to participate in school drama performances. After graduating from high school, Sal entered Croydon School of Art to study the Art and Design Foundation Course. While at school, he was a member of the Croydon Youth Theatre. He continued to play prominent roles in dramas. Sal obtained a BA (Hons) in Visual and Performing Arts. After graduation, Sal found a job as a studio assistant at Spitting Image (a British satirical puppet show). Initially, he assisted in making puppets. However, later on, he was promoted to puppeteer. He then began working as a teacher in a postgraduate course in West Yorkshire. He conducted several workshops and taught a wide range of subjects to a wide range of students. In 2007, Sal Yusuf moved to India in search of better career options.

Profession

While in India, Sal began to realize his talent. Advertising agency Rediffusion gave Sal his first job. He then started working as a voice actor in many shows. Funny by nature, Yusuf decided to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. After performing in many stand-up comedy shows in Bangalore, Sal appeared at the Mumbai Comedy Store in 2012, becoming the first British comedian to live in India. Soon, he became a member of the Bangalore Improvisational Group.

Meanwhile, Sarr continued to write scripts and act in homemade commercials. Subsequently, he was offered many professional commercials. In 2014, Sarr formed his own company, Black Box India, to showcase the work done by his team for Graphic India, a graphic novel book company. Thereafter, Sarr tried his hand at acting by playing small roles in films. Some of the films he has acted in include Killi Poyi (2013), Ustad Hotel (2012), Iyobinte Pustakum (2014), Comrade In America (2017), The Performance in Take Off (2017), Tiger Zindai Hai (2017), and Candyflip (2017).
