Salman Ali was born on January 14, 1998 in Punhana Tehsil, Mewat District, Haryana, India (age 23; as of 2021). He believes in Islam and belongs to a poor Muslim family in Mirasi community. He lives in a joint family and is the youngest of four siblings. Singing is a family tradition and he drew inspiration for it from his ancestors. He studied at Palwal Delhi Public School and dropped out after completing ninth standard due to financial crisis. Ali has loved music since a very young age and started singing at weddings and Jagarans at the age of seven.

Salman Ali first became famous when he participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs in 2011 at the age of 13. His family’s financial situation was so poor that he had no money to go to Delhi for auditions. At that time, his friend Manohar Sharma helped him financially to audition.
During the audition of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs, Ali sang the song “Sajda” and impressed the three judges Kailash Kher, Adnan Sami and Javed Ali. In 2011, he was the first runner-up of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs.
In 2018, after a lapse of seven years, Ali auditioned for “Indian Idol 10” and sang “Sajda” again during the selection, thereby entering the show. Ali was admired for his high-pitched singing.
Salman won Indian Idol Top 10 on December 23, 2018, beating four other finalists. He won a cash prize of 2.5 million and a Datsun Go car.
Apart from the reality show, Ali also composed the theme song of Sony Entertainment Television’s “Chandragupta Maurya”. He also gave Aalap in the promotional song “Sab Badhiya Hai” of the movie Sui Dhaga – Made in India.
