Sam Asghari has only positive things to say about his marriage to Britney Spears.
The former couple, who began dating in 2017 before tying the knot in June 2022, split back in August, but Asghari tells PEOPLE exclusively that he is grateful for their relationship.
“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people break up and people move on,” says the 29-year-old actor and model simply.
Although Asghari was the one who filed for divorce from Spears (42), he adds that he harbors no ill will towards his ex. In fact, he’d rather celebrate their time together.

“I’ve always hated people who leave a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they loved each other and sat at the same table eating food [together] — so I never understood when people split up [and] they talk bad about each other,” says the actor. “It’s something I’ll never do because I’ve just had an amazing experience and a great life, and it’s always going to be a part of my life, a chapter of my life.”

Looking ahead, Asghari is preparing to celebrate his 30th birthday on March 3, and is focused on furthering his career and maintaining a “healthy lifestyle.”
“When I was in high school, I thought 30-year-olds were so old. But every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they enjoy life, because wisdom and experiences come with age,” he says. “And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that’s something I’m really excited to be able to fulfill.”

His marriage to Spears and subsequent divorce from her fall into the category of life experiences, and Asghari plans to take it easy – even though for now the only woman in his life is his Doberman, Porsha.
“I always have the most positive way of thinking about life. My life experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. I will continue to grow. I come from a place where we celebrate our past,” he says. “I look back fondly. My past was a blessing and beautiful.”
