Career
At the age of 11, he became interested in music after buying a mandolin. Bush himself attended the first Roanoke, Virginia Bluegrass Festival in 1965. Afterwards, he collaborated with guitarist Wayne Stewart, his mentor and musical instructor, and banjoist Alan Munde on an instrumental album called Poor Richard’s Almanac, released in 1969. The band disbanded in the fall 1971 and reunited as New Grass Revival. This reunion went through many personnel changes, with Bruce being the only original member.
Bush eventually formed his own band, which included Cowan and former Nash Ramblers Jon Randall and Larry Atamanuick, shortly before his second solo album, Glamor & Grits, was released in 1996. Bush and the New Glass Revival reformed in the winter of 1997. for an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien as Garth Brooks’ opening act. In addition, Bush released another album in 2006, Laps in Seven.
