Sandhya Shekar is an Indian makeup artist. She is primarily known for her signature no-makeup look. She has created Deepika Padukone’s signature looks for various awards and fashion shows including the Met Gala and Cannes.

Sandhya Shekar was born on Monday, June 11, 1984, in Udupi Karnataka, Karnataka (38 years old; as of 2022). Her zodiac sign is Gemini. Her friends also called her Sandy. She holds an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the International School of Business and Media. After discovering her interest in makeup and deciding to pursue a career in makeup, Shekhar took a professional makeup course in Bangalore under the guidance of hairstylist Prabhaat and her friend stylist Sitara Kudige. Later, she went to the London School of Beauty and Cosmetics to study for a month. She also pursued a further professional course from Nahush Pise in Mumbai.

Profession
Growing up in a rural area, she had no idea makeup could be a massive career option. She thought it was limited to beauty salons. Later, when she moved to Bangalore, she learned about career options in makeup through hairstylist Prabhat and her friend Sithara Kudige, a top stylist in Bangalore. Before entering the field of makeup, Sandhya worked for a year at Yes Bank in Bangalore. Initially, she started her career as a makeup artist in Bangalore but she didn’t get a good response and later she moved to Mumbai. When she first debuted, she received an order for bridal makeup. Gradually, she received invitations for model makeup. She began her career as a celebrity makeup artist in 2005, working on MTV campaigns and writing her first fashion editorial for Grazia magazine, which she considers a turning point in her career. Most of the popular magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Grazia, GQ, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan etc. are clients of Sandhya Shekar. She has done makeup for many Bollywood actresses including Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez, Aditi Rao Heda Lee, Parineeti Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.

- Sandhya Shekar believes that a makeup artist must always be up-to-date on the tools and techniques used in the makeup industry. She regularly participates in short masterclasses, trade shows and exhibitions. In an interview, she spoke about this and said:
So even though I have been doing this for about 15 years, if I see something happening in Mumbai or elsewhere with someone I respect, I still go for a 3-5 day masterclass. “
- In an interview with Grazia magazine, she revealed that she always carries a Shu Uemura eyelash curler, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Nourishing Moisturizer, Luma blush and lip gloss, and a good brow balm in her makeup bag.
- She loved makeup so much that when she was a child, she would often steal her mother’s makeup bag and put it on herself. When her mother stopped her from applying makeup, she would use beetroot to put on her lips and cheeks.
