Sanjay Karol was born on Wednesday, August 23, 1961 (age 61; as of 2022) in Garli village, Dragopippur, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Virgo. - In 2017, he ordered the construction of public toilets on national highways for people traveling on public buses. He also claimed that forcing people to urinate or defecate in public because there are no public toilets violates their dignity.
- In 2017, while serving in the Himachal Pradesh High Court, he delivered judgments on issues such as eliminating discrimination against married women in employment, stopping illegal mining, and protecting rivers from illegal construction of dams. After his verdict, many steps were taken to address the problem, including installing cameras in prisons to check human rights violations, building roads, protecting UNESCO heritage sites, improving medical facilities in hospitals, forest reforms and other sectors, especially the forest Guard conditions and police reform.

- In 2019, when he was serving in the Patna High Court, he took some steps to protect the environment. He did not allow the destruction of the lime tree on the High Court campus for the construction of a new building. He asked the engineers to change the design and reshape the complex so that the Bodhi trees would not be harmed.
- On December 13, 2022, he was recommended to serve as a Supreme Court judge, but was not confirmed by the federal government. Others sitting on the bench with Carroll include Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Pankaj Mittal, Manipur High Court Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice Asanuddin Aman Justice Noura and Allahabad High Court Justice Manoj Misra.
- In an interview, Carroll said that his motivation in life was to help all poor litigants, for which he also adopted methods of conciliation, mediation and proposed setting up legal clinics at the Panchayat level.
- He is known for his humble behavior. According to media reports, Carroll once saved the life of a milkman who fainted after suffering an epileptic seizure at Lakkal Bazaar in Shimla. Carroll saw him lying on the road as he passed by, got out of his car and asked the driver to take the man to hospital.
