Saoirse Ronan is set to narrate the new audiobook version of Colm Tóibín’s bestseller Brooklyn after her “flawless” portrayal in the film adaptation.
On Wednesday, September 18th, Simon & Schuster Audio announced the news of a new audiobook, which will be released on October 22nd. Ronan, 30, starred in the 2015 historical drama of the same name, based on the 2009 book.
The actress was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for her portrayal of the main character Eilis Lacey.
“I had the honor of playing Eilis Lacey in the film adaptation of Colm Tóibín’s book Brooklynand now I’m recording an audiobook,” Ronan said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “I couldn’t be more privileged to bring this beautiful book to life. It’s something that’s so personal to me and will always have a special place in my heart.”

Author Tóibín praised Ronan’s talent and involvement in the audiobook, saying in a separate statement: “I’ve been a huge fan of Saoirse Ronan’s work for a long time. It’s a huge gift that she’s made this beautiful audio recording of my novel Brooklyn.”
“She has already graced the film with her great talent, her impeccable performance,” he continued. “Now she did more: she brought the words to life with her voice.”
According to the official synopsis, The New York Times bestselling novel “follows the story of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish woman who immigrates to Brooklyn in the early 1950s. Although she is far from home and homesick, she starts a new life for herself, finds a job in a department store and meets Tony, a blond Italian from a large of a family who slowly conquers her with his patient charm.”

The two fall in love, but the young woman is called back to Ireland after a tragic event hits her family. While there, Eilis faces “a terrible dilemma: a devastating choice between duty and one great love.”
Tóibín released a sequel to the book in 2024 titled Long Island, which takes place 25 years after the end of the first book. The book received positive reception upon publication with a PEOPLE review calling it “a captivating novel about love, loneliness and loss.”

The author has since published several more books Brooklynincluding Will of Mary, Viking, Nora Webster, House of names and Magician.
Ronan, who grew up in Dublin, connected personally with her character in the film adaptation as she prepared to move out of her parents’ home and into a new place in London when she was cast.
“When you leave the house, you can never take that step back,” said the actress in an interview for Backstage. “I realized that no matter what, once you have an experience that is separate from your home life and your family and where you grew up, you’ll never be the same. You’ll never be the person you were if you stayed.”

Ronan, who had her breakthrough role in 2007 Reconciliationhe went on to star in Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed films Little Women and Lady Bird. The actress has two upcoming projects to release this year: an Apple TV+ historical drama Blitz and The Outrun.
In a recent interview with The Times, Foe star spoke about how he acts in The Outrun — an adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s 2016 memoir of the same name about the author’s recovery from alcoholism — influenced her own relationship with alcohol.
“I’m more aware of my intake – and there are more people of my generation choosing not to drink anymore because of how it makes them feel,” she said.
