Sarah Rafferty's 2 Children: All About Oona and Iris

Sarah Rafferty is perhaps best known for her role as Mom in the series My life with the Walter Boysbut she is also an off-screen mother to her children, Oona and Iris.

The Suits the alum shares her two children with husband Santtu Seppälä, whom she married in 2001. Rafferty and Seppälä’s daughter Oona was born in 2007, followed by Iris in 2012.

Thanks to her own family, Rafferty especially appreciates playing a mother figure on TV. “I’m also a proud mom in my real life,” she told PEOPLE in December 2023. “My life completely revolves around my kids at this point in my life.”

Referring to her character in My life with the Walter Boys‘ big family, the actress said: “I’m so grateful for my two. My two are perfect.”

This isn’t the first time Rafferty has gushed about how much he loves Oona and Iris.

“They are the light of my life,” she said Parents Canada 2014. “They’re so open and funny and silly. They love to sing and dance, love each other and are incredibly affectionate. They break me every day.”

Rafferty and Seppälä welcomed their first child, daughter Oonu Gray Seppälä, on 22 October 2007.

Rafferty celebrated her 13th birthday in 2020 with a cute Instagram photo of Oona sitting in front of a birthday cake. “How did it happen? We officially have a teenager. We love it so much that we have to sing it from the mountaintops. My heart hurts.❤️”, she wrote in the description.

When Suits was on the air, Rafferty and her family lived a bi-coastal lifestyle between Los Angeles and Toronto (where the legal drama was filmed). As a result, Oona grew up going to two different schools.

In an interview with S. in 2013 The Red BookRafferty revealed that she was “concerned” about the set-up, but that “it ended up being an amazing, self-esteem-building experience for her. She celebrates it.”

Rafferty said she is focused on maintaining an open and honest relationship with Oona and Iris.

In a 2016 interview with Univision, when Oona was 8, Rafferty explained that she taught her older daughter the importance of “being true to yourself and knowing that she can talk to us about absolutely anything.”

“I hope that as she grows up and navigates the world on her own, she will feel confident because she feels deeply connected to her family,” Chicago Med the star continued. “I hope he feels we can provide a safe space for whatever he wants to talk about.”

In the same interview, Rafferty revealed that both Oona and Iris loved coming to Suits along with her, saying their favorite is visiting the craft service truck, hair and makeup trailer, and attending fittings.

“My girls were dressed in outrageously beautiful fashion on several occasions,” she said. “Those photos of dressing rooms are treasures for me.”

Iris Friday Seppälä, 12

Rafferty and Seppälä welcomed their second daughter, Iris Friday Seppälä, on January 27, 2012.

The Grey’s Anatomy guest star shared that her girls were always close to her. “With my four-year-old, we focus on empathy,” Rafferty told Univision in 2016. “When her sister was crying the other day, we literally took a tissue and wiped her tears and kissed her. It was so nice.”

Rafferty is perhaps best known for playing Donna Suitsbut her children are not familiar with the series. In an interview with New Beauty 2024, the actress revealed that her daughters did not watch the series, although they were often with her on the set in Toronto.

“They’ve called ‘action’ and ‘cut’ sometimes and are incredibly close to the actors and their families,” she shared.

Although her daughters don’t actively watch the USA Network series, Rafferty said Iris watched a few episodes when she was 11 and was embarrassed.

She said: ‘I just thought it was strange, mum. I just want you to be my mom,’ the former cast member recalled.

The actress added that her daughters were watching her My life with the Walter Boys and I liked it more. In fact, Iris was excited for her mom to take on the lead role in the teenage Netflix series.

In an interview with S. 2023 GlamourRafferty said that according to Iris, My life with the Walter Boys would be the next hit series.

“She broke down My summer is beautifuland then crushed [early screeners] of My life with the Walter Boys [so I’m pretty hopeful]!” said Rafferty.
