Satish Kumar Yadav is an Indian amateur boxer. He is the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics in the super heavyweight (+91kg) category.

Satish Kumar was born on Thursday, May 4, 1989, in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh (32 years old as of 2021). His zodiac sign is Taurus. When Satish was a teenager, one of his brothers served in the Indian Army. Inspired by him, Satish decided to join the Indian Army. In 2008, he joined the Indian Army as an Indian soldier. He was sent to Ranikhet in Uttarkhand, where at a boxing camp he was noticed for his height and the boxing coach forced him to try the sport. Although Kumar excelled at sports during his formative years, dabbling in cricket and hockey, he never considered a career in sports.

family
His father was a farmer in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Little is known about his mother. He has three brothers. One of his brothers is serving in the Indian Army.
Profession
Satish started his career in 2008 as a sepoy in the Indian Army. He started boxing professionally when he was 19 years old. He competed in various local and state level boxing tournaments and made his national level debut at the age of 21. In 2011, Satish won a silver medal at the National Senior Boxing Championships.
In 2012, he won the gold medal defeating Praveen Kumar in the final of the Indian National Championships. He entered the international boxing world in 2013. He won a bronze medal at the 2013 Korotkov Memorial Championships in Russia and later represented India at the ASBC Asian Continental Championships in Amman, Jordan.
That same year, he competed in the AIBA World Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, but was declared unfit due to injury before the quarter-finals, ultimately forcing him to settle for a silver medal.
Satish soon returned to competition and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Icheon Asian Games, followed by a bronze medal at the 2015 Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok. The Rio Olympics were a huge setback for Satish as he suffered a serious injury and could not compete in the Games. In 2018, Satish won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
In the same year, he won the gold medal at the Czech Ustinad Labem Grand Prix. He also won a silver medal at the inaugural India Open. In 2020, won a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics; became the first Indian heavyweight boxer (91kg) to qualify for the Olympics. The Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Apart from boxing, he also served in the Indian Army. Satish was included in the Indian government’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). He is also associated with JWS Sports.

- Satish was only 18 years old when he joined the Indian Army. He didn’t exactly know what boxing was when he was suggested to join it during a boxing camp. He once thought boxing was WWE. Talking about this in an interview, Satish said:
The first time I heard about boxing was in 2008. Otherwise, I used to think that WWE was all about boxing. I knew The Undertaker and John Cena, but not real boxing. “

Without the military, I don’t think I would be where I am now. I come from a place where not many people set goals for themselves early in life, but once I joined the military, I found my direction. “
