Asked if he enjoyed watching it, Stephen pretended to do an impression of Simon, 64 – saying: “I didn’t like it, I loved it.”

He then added: “It’s my Cowell impression, but it’s not very convincing because my face has moved.”

The audience gasped at his comment and those watching at home were stunned.

Simon doesn’t mind admitting he’s had some work done and was even one of the first male TV stars to admit to botox and fillers.

In the past, Simon has responded to comments about his looks, saying: Simon explained: “I think it’s hysterical. I mean, it just makes me laugh – I haven’t had a facelift or anything.

“I applied some botox or whatever, but nothing drastic. So when I honestly hear about these things, they make me laugh.

“Over the years people have said I’ve done everything. But I don’t Google myself, so I really have no idea what everyone’s saying about me until we do things like BGT.”

Ant and Dec even commented on his appearance on the latest series of BGT.

They joked that there was a new face on the board, who everyone thinks is Bruno Tonioli, but then the cheeky Geordie duo said: “It’s Simon Cowell.”

A secret joke

During tonight’s episode, Simon was tricked for the second time as part of Saturday Night Takeaway’s famous secret prank.

The music mogul was the first victim of the duo’s prank in 2003, when they acted out a humorous audition on the American singing competition American Idol, where Simon was a judge.

To mark the show’s 20th series, the duo returned to the United States to prank Simon on his bike ride and during a taping of America’s Got Talent (AGT).

In the first joke, Simon was interrupted in the morning cycle by a fake policeman who accused him of violating a series of fictitious offenses.

While another stage saw a music producer prank AGT in front of a live audience when a fake magician made him enter a chained metal box on stage while a masked performer pretended to swallow the keys.

However, Simon was pretended to have a key stuck in the performer’s throat, which did not impress him.

Members of the AGT crew then pretended to try to free him with a chainsaw and just before they were about to use explosives, Ant and Dec took to the stage disguised as masked performers before revealing they were behind the prank, prompting Cowell to say : “I’ll kill you.”
