Savannah Chrisley Says Dad Todd Is 'Fine' After Rejected Appeal and Cried 'Happy Tears' Wife Julie's Case Was Tossed

Savannah Chrisley offers an update on her parents after mom Julie Chrisley’s case was dismissed.

The Chrisley knows best alum, 26, shared that her entire family – including dad Todd Chrisley – is excited for Julie to be released from prison following her appeal. And at the time, Savannah noticed that her father wasn’t thinking about dismissing his own appeal.

“He’s fine,” she said on the Tuesday, July 2, episode about her Unlocked podcast. “He was crying, like, happy tears knowing that mom might be home. That’s the only thing he cares about now is getting her home.”

Savannah then praised Todd, 55, for taking care of his wife more than himself. The former Maskar contestant then said that her Julie (51) coming out will change his life as well, even though he will remain in prison.

“Mom was obviously heartbroken for dad, but hopefully he’ll be able to come home and then be able to visit him, and that’s going to make a difference, I think, for his overall mental health and well-being, as well as hers,” Savannah explained. “So I hope it happens, but it’s been crazy.”

After news of Julie’s release broke, Savannah said her publicist started getting calls about filming opportunities. She explained that the family was not ready to consider it when her mom hadn’t even come home yet.

“I called my publicist today because she just had to call and, like, vent,” she said. “She was like, ‘Can you believe the crap people do?’ Apparently, someone, a production company, approached her and asked if my mom had already worked exclusively with a production company. And Alexa [Garcia] it was like, ‘You do realize she’s still in jail, right?'”

Adding that returning to TV is “not something she’s worried about right now,” Savannah said she hopes the public can see they jumped to conclusions in judging the family when the legal battle began.

“If you go back to one of the podcasts at the very beginning when we talked about the culture of cancellation, which is the bane of my existence — I absolutely hate it — all the people who cancel, we’re all the ones who also have a lot of skeletons in their closet,” she said. “Just remember, when you fire someone, you could be next on the list if you air all your dirty laundry for the world to see.”

She continued: “At the very beginning when everyone was canceling, I said ‘just wait. If something goes in our favor, all these people will come out on top. They’re going to want to sign us to this, sign us to that,’ and see what happens. So it makes me a little angry, but at the end of the day, that’s the world we live in. It’s also an entertainment industry.”

On June 21, a judge overturned Julien’s seven-year prison sentence, citing insufficient evidence in the case. Todd’s conviction is upheld.

“We are pleased that the court agreed that Julie’s sentence was inappropriate, but we are obviously disappointed that it denied Todd’s appeal,” the Chrisleys’ attorney, Alex Little, said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “With this step behind us, we can now challenge the couple’s convictions based on the illegal search that started the case. The family appreciates the continued support they have received throughout this process. And they hope for more good news in the future.”

The couple was first indicted by a grand jury in 2019 for tax evasion, conspiracy, and wire and wire fraud. The embezzlement charge was later dropped, but Todd, Julie and their accountant were found guilty on all other counts and their sentences began in January 2023.
