Officers attended, along with the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance.
At the scene, the ambulance provided help to a 14-year-old boy who suffered stab wounds, but unfortunately he died soon after.

One resident who lives inside the fenced area told MailOnline: “This is heartbreaking.
“I can’t believe this happened. We have just started the New Year.
“Fourteen-year-old stabbed in broad daylight on bus. Where is the world coming to?”

She added: “I would ask anyone who witnessed this horrific incident or has any information that could help to call the police.”
Mrs. Sergeant described how the initial warning was given by a local policeman on patrol.
She added: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims at this time.

The Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said: “My thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community in Greenwich following the horrific fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy.”
He said: “This heartbreaking violence has absolutely no place in our city. I am in close contact with police chiefs – an investigation is ongoing and local residents will see increased patrols in the local area.”
Mark Rodney, chief executive of charity Project Lifeline, said the death of a 14-year-old boy who was stabbed on a bus in Woolwich on Tuesday afternoon was “devastating”.

An earlier police statement said: “An investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a teenager on a bus this afternoon.
“Police were called at 2.28pm on Tuesday 7 January to reports of a stabbing on a bus in Woolwich, SE18.
“The incident took place on the Route 472 bus on Woolwich Church Road close to the junction with the A205 Southern Ring Road.”
A spokesman for London Ambulance Service added: “We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a rapid response car, an incident response officer and a paramedic from our tactical response unit.
“We also dispatched the London Air Ambulance.
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of our teams, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.”
A woman who works at a nearby church said she saw an ambulance and other emergency vehicles arrive at the scene, but did not see any passengers from the bus.
The incident happened a day after an 18-year-old was stabbed near a school in the same part of London.
Police were called to the scene at around 4.20pm on Prince Imperial Road in Woolwich.
The man was transported to the hospital, where his life is still in danger.
Police do not currently believe the two attacks are connected.
About 10 teenagers were killed in London last year, nine of whom were stabbed, while one died in a shooting, according to data compiled by the PA news agency.
This is sharply less than the 21 teenage deaths in the capital in 2023. The youngest victim in 2024 was 14 years old.
