Schools closed in Arunachal Pradesh
Closed AP Schools: The Longding district government of Arunachal Pradesh has announced to temporarily close schools due to an outbreak of conjunctivitis in Kanubari division until July 29, 2023. This decision was made to ensure the safety of students as the disease is highly contagious and can spiral out of control if left unchecked.
In the announcement, Bani Lego, Deputy Commissioner of Longding said: “Given the seriousness of the problem, all school principals in the Kanubari and Lawnu education districts are directed to temporarily close their schools until July 29, in order to break the chain of transmission of the disease.”
What is conjunctivitis and how to prevent it?
According to DC doctors, conjunctivitis is very contagious and can be spread from one patient to another. This is an infectious disease spread by many different viruses. Some common symptoms include heavy watering, redness, itchiness, and a feeling of a lump in the eye. It can be spread through direct or indirect contact with a person, such as respiratory droplets, contaminated objects, or eye secretions from an infected person.
Precautions should be taken to avoid further spread. Health authorities recommend frequent hand washing, personal hygiene, avoiding eye contact, keeping surfaces clean and disinfected, and keeping your distance from infected people are some of the essential steps to take to control the outbreak.
Furthermore, Longding’s DDSE Taje Jilen said the school closure circular was announced following a report by the Kanubari Division of Education Officer (BEO). “We don’t have a figure on how many students are infected,” he added.
According to officials, suspected cases of conjunctivitis have been reported at several schools in the West Siang district.
