See Tina Fey Join Kenneth Branagh’s Murder Investigation in ‘A Haunting in Venice’ Clip (Exclusive)

Tina Fey joins Kenneth Branagh’s detective Hercule Poirot as another classic Agatha Christie character in the Haunting in Venice.

On Tuesday, 20th Century Studios shared a clip from the film exclusively with PEOPLE, featuring Fey, 53, as a fictional mystery novelist named Ariadne Oliver as Poirot begins setting up his investigation for yet another case.

In the clip, Poirot notes that Ariadne was the first person to notice the dead body in the center Haunting in Veniceis a mystery. He then admits that the mystery writer has a credible alibi and asks her to help him with his latest investigation, a testament to the shared history between the two characters.

Haunting in Venice marks Branagh’s third film adapted from Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels, after 2017. Murder on the Orient Express and in 2022 Death on the Nile. The new film is an adaptation of one of the author’s lesser-known novels, Halloween Funpublished in 1969.

A haunted announcement in Venice

Ariadne, who the film establishes as one of the world’s foremost mystery novelists and a key player in Poirot’s background as a detective, invites him to join her at a séance she attends on Halloween night.

The event is hosted by grieving mother Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly) in a mansion she owns that has long been rumored to be haunted. As Poirot learns more about the death of Rowena’s daughter, he sets out to solve another mystery.

Haunting in Venice also starring Michelle Yeoh, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Ali Khan, Emma Laird and Riccardo Scamarcio. Jamie Dornan and Jude Hill, who starred in Branagh’s 2021 Oscar-winning film. Belfastplays another father-son duo in the film.

Fey’s character Ariadne appears in a number of Christie’s novels, including six featuring Detective Poirot.

Christie’s official website says that the character is “in many ways, a vehicle for Agatha Christie’s own voice, especially in relation to writing and the public”, although Christie herself has never admitted that the character has more than a “strong streak” of her own.

Before Fey took on the role, Ariadne was portrayed on screen by Jean Stapleton, Julia McKenzie and Zoë Wanamaker in numerous Agatha Christie adaptations.

Haunting in Venice is in theaters on Friday.
