Selena Gomez 'Couldn't Figure Out' Her 'Sound' Before Fiancé Benny Blanco Helped Her Make Her 1st Album in 5 Years 

Benny Blanco is the fiancé of Selene Gomez and her muse.

On the eve of the release of their first project together, a collaborative album entitled I said I love you firstThe couple did an interview with Valling stoneIn which Gomez, 32, revealed that Blanco, 37, helped her to reconnect with music.

As fans remember, Gomez’s last full-length album was in the 2020s Rare (She also posted an EP, Revelación2021).

Gomez said that one reason for her musical hiatus “is very frustrated and somehow confused where I wanted to go musically next.”

“And we were together for a while, and obviously I would trust in him. I couldn’t think of my sound,” Gomez said at her fiancé Blanco’s exit, which she suggested in December 2024. “It helps to know a little about music, and that somehow organically happened where I felt like the process I had ever passed.”

Blanco, a producer, shared that they kept the project “really close to their chest”, working only with friends.

In order to help Gomez to write, Blanco recalled that he had taken out the pen every time Gomez woke up so that he could “write what it came to her.”

“Then we would enter another room and create it, and that became a song. It was such a cathartic and therapeutic experience,” Blanco said.

The fans tasted Gomez’s new “sound” through the previously released single “Sunset Blvd”, “Frightened of Love” and “Call Me when” with Gracie Abrams, all shown on the new album.

As for how the album title came about, Gomez said Valling stone That this is “factual”, describing what “actually fell” in his romance with Blanc.

“It’s just factual. That’s actually what’s failed and describes us. This whole project embodies his stories in combination with my stories. They have meanings that are really personal for both of us. So, one song could actually mean two different things,” said Gomez.

She also thinks the title is “just really sweet,” she said, adding, “Curish as charged. I first said” I love you. ”
