Selena Gomez Feels 'Grateful' to Reach Billionaire Status but Thinks 'It's Distasteful to Talk About Money'

New billionaire Selena Gomez remains humble.

The “Hands to Myself” singer and Rare Beauty founder, 32, stepped out for the premiere of her new film, Emilia Perezduring the 62nd New York Film Festival at Alice Tully Hall on Sept. 30 and opened up about one of her latest accomplishments: becoming a billionaire.

“I’m very grateful,” Gomez said Party tonight on the red carpet after the Bloomberg Billionaires Index recently reported that she is now worth $1.3 billion — largely thanks to her cosmetics brand Rare Beauty.

“Personally, I think it’s distasteful to talk about money,” she added, “but I really give all the credit to the people who buy the products.”

“They’re the ones who made this dream of mine come true, so I’m really, really honored and just happy,” continued Gomez, who is said to be one of the youngest self-made billionaires in the United States.

Gomez previously spoke with Time about the success of her cosmetics brand. “I have this weird thing in my head where if I focus on the numbers, I lose what made Rare Beauty Rare Beauty,” she told the outlet. “I never wanted it to be about making a lot of money and that’s it.”

In April of Forbes reported that Gomez’s friend Taylor Swift has reached billionaire status thanks to her ongoing Eras Tour, extensive song catalog and real estate portfolio.

Earlier this month, PEOPLE caught up with Gomez at the Toronto International Film Festival premiere Emilia Perez — where she expressed feeling “grateful” for all the “overwhelming” things happening in her professional life.

“It’s such a wonderful gift,” added the “Lose You to Love Me” singer, who was also recently nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmys for her role in Just the murders in the building.
