Shahnawaz Pradhan was an Indian television and film actor. He was known for his role as ‘Nanda Baba’ in the Indian television epic series ‘Shri Krishna’. He died of a heart attack on February 18, 2023 in Mumbai.

Shahnawaz Pradhan was born in Raj Khariar, Nuapada, Odisha on Friday, December 6, 1963 (aged 59 at the time of his death). His star sign was Sagittarius.

When Shahnawaz was 7 years old, the family moved to Raipur as the doctor advised him to go there for treatment due to his father’s poor health. He went to the Government High School in Raipur. In the 7th grade, he was selected to participate in the school play and made his stage debut. Shahnawaz loved acting and subsequently joined several local drama groups. After completing his schooling, he went to Ravi Shankar University in Raipur to pursue his degree. In 1984, Habib Tanveer (a theatre artist) came to his university as a visiting professor for a year. He gathered students to prepare for the play and after the play, Tanveer invited Pradhan to join his theatre group “New Theatre”. Shahnawaz joined the group and worked in the theatre industry for 5 years.

He has performed in plays like Charandas Chor, Lala Shohrat Rai, Hirma Ki Amar Kahani and Mitti Ki Gaadi across India. In 1991, he left theatre and moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career.

He fell unconscious due to chest pain at an award ceremony in Mumbai on February 18, 2023. He was then rushed to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai where he died of a heart attack.

- In August 2015, Shahnawaz went underground after playing the role of ‘Hafiz Saeed’ in the Bollywood film ‘Phantom’. According to reports, the Lahore High Court banned the film in Pakistan after Saeed filed a lawsuit. Therefore, the film’s producers decided to keep Shahnawaz underground as a precaution.
