‘Shameless’ Prince Harry ‘jetted home to see Charles as he needed something to talk about in interview’, insider claims

PRINCE Harry “shamelessly” flew home to see his sick father because he needed something to talk about on TV, insiders claim.

And despite years of criticizing the royal family, he called for “family unity” in a highly promoted “exclusive” interview.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, embarked on an epic 10,000-mile journey last week to see his father for the first time in 17 months.

Palace aides limited him to just 30 minutes at Clarence House before the King and Queen left for Sandringham.

In a TV interview today, Harry described meeting his father and his cancer diagnosis during an interview to promote his military games in Canada.

Now some insiders fear that Harry was motivated to go home by the need for material for his interview.

One said: “Harry would know if he had this interview in the US and he would be asked about his father, much needed material.

“The palace wasn’t stupid and they knew they had to limit the time he could spend with the king.”

Both Sussex and Buckingham Palace sources declined to comment on the 30-minute meeting, saying it was “private” and insisting the father and son’s privacy was respected.

Insiders close to the king insisted he accepted the “gesture” from his worried son when he flew in to visit last week.

Charles waited for his helicopter, which was ready to take him to Sandringham after his cancer treatment, until Harry arrived at Clarence House.

Palace insiders described the transatlantic effort as a “gesture” of welcome and providing “reasons for optimism” after years of bitter family feuding.

No one would be nearly as interested in Harry and Meghan if it weren’t for their royal connections

Harry’s biographer and royal expert, Angela Levin, has now slammed the prince.

She told The Sun: “Harry’s interview was shameless and despicable.

“The TV company apparently said they wanted a few words about his father and Harry’s return to the UK.

“If he hadn’t been in the UK, he wouldn’t have had words about his father because he wouldn’t have seen him.

“So he rushed over, knowing he had to do something on TV. All this is totally dishonest and to give him publicity.

“It also seemed funny to say he was happy with 30 minutes and just said hello to his dad.

“I don’t think at this stage when you have a father who is 75 and has been diagnosed with cancer, you can’t be so frivolous. That’s shocking.

I will stop by and see my family as often as I can

“Nobody in his position would normally be happy just to walk up, say hello to his father briefly, and leave.”

The trip mirrored Harry’s trip to see the late Queen in 2022, which he then spoke about a few days later on US television during the Invictus Games in the Netherlands.

Harry was joined by Meghan in Whistler and Vancouver for three days this week to promote next year’s Games.

The interview with ABC’s Good Morning America host Will Reeve — son of Superman actor Christopher Reeve — came after cameras followed the couple for several days.

Harry described in the interview how he heard that his father had been diagnosed with cancer.

He said: “I spoke to him. I jumped on a plane and went to see him as soon as I could.”

Asked about the “thrill” of the transatlantic flight, he said: “Look, I love my family and the fact that I was able to get on a plane and go see them and spend any time with them, I’m grateful for that.”

Asked for his take on his father’s health, Harry added: “That remains between me and him.”

But when asked if the 30-minute meeting could have a “reuniting” effect after years of bitter transatlantic spats, he replied: “Yes, I’m sure.”

Pointing to the military families on the slopes participating in the 12-month initiation ceremony ahead of next year’s Invictus Games, he said: “Every day I see through all these families the strength of the family unit. together.”

Harry, also seen on a sled during training, added: “Every sickness and disease brings a family together.”

His comments also come as sister-in-law Kate is recovering from abdominal surgery.

However, neither Harry nor wife Meghan visited Thomas Markle’s father after he suffered a massive stroke.

Harry also hasn’t traveled back to the UK with Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at the same time since Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee in June 2022. But he told Good Morning America: “I have my family, like all of us.”

Speaking about his new life, he added: “My family and my life in California is what it is – I’ve got other trips planned that will take me through the UK or back to the UK so I’ll pop in and see my family as much as I can.”
