Sharan Sharma started his film career in 2013 as an assistant director in the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. He later served as the creative director of the films Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) and Lust Story (2018). . He made his debut as an independent director with the film Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) starring Jhanvi Kapoor. The film was originally scheduled to be released in theaters, but due to the lockdown in India amid the coronavirus pandemic, the film was released on the OTT platform Netflix.
