Shashi Kapoor was born on 18 March 1938 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India (79 years; age at time of death). He began his career as a child artist at the age of four. He has acted in plays directed and produced by his father, Prithviraj Kapoor. It was not until the 1970s and 1980s that Shashi Kapoor began to come into the spotlight. Apart from appearing in Hindi dramas and mainstream films, he has also appeared in many English films. He was awarded the National Award for his contribution to the Hindi film industry.

In 2012, Shashi Kapoor underwent cataract surgery at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. However, he was discharged from the hospital that same day.
He suffered from kidney disease for a long time before his death. However, on December 3, 2017, he died after a “long battle” with cirrhosis and kidney failure.

Shashi Kapoor completed her schooling from Don Bosco High School in Matunga, Mumbai. He made his silver screen debut as a child artist in 1948, playing the role of young ‘Kewal Khanna’ in the Bollywood film ‘Aag’.
