Shaun King Is Facing Backlash After He Used Donor Cash To Purchase Dog

Prominent Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King’s political action group spent donor money on a $40,000 puppy, according to a recent allegation in the conservative website Washington Free Beacon. The money was allegedly given to a dog breeder in California. The allegations come months after King announced the birth of a mastiff puppy named Marz on Facebook. The ad was then deleted because the puppy was allegedly returned to the breeder. The dog was called “a new member of the King family” in King’s article at the time. He also said that Marz will act as a protection dog for his family.

What exactly are the allegations behind Shaun King’s purchase of the dog?

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Shaun King’s Grassroots Law PAC has spent more than $40,000 on California breeder Potrero Performance Dogs since last year. According to Federal Election Commission records, the PAC paid the first $10,000 as a “contract deposit” in early December. According to the records, a second payment of approximately $30,650 was processed in February.

A post on Potrero Performance Dogs’ Instagram earlier this month revealed that Marz was returned because he had too much energy as a house dog. However, the post has now become private, as has the account, and may have been removed. At the time of writing, it is not known if PAC received a refund upon the return of the dog.

There is no information on whether Shaun King subsequently refunded the alleged spending of PAC funds. Since the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement began in 2013, activists have raised more than $34.5 million. This is not the first time King has been accused of engaging in fraudulent fundraising through the Grassroots Law PAC, which he co-founded with Lee Merritt.

Activist Shaun King’s Black Lives Matter political PAC used donor money to buy a $40,000 dog that King used as a family pet. How and why does this corruption continue without any responsibility and consequences? Why are the donors not outraged and not demanding an accounting?

Netizens are reacting to reports that Shaun King used PAC donor money to buy a $40,000 puppy.

Following the publication of these allegations, some Twitter users advised others not to donate to Shaun King’s PAC. Meanwhile, several tweets suggested King may have lied about the dog’s $40,000-plus price to get the money. Shaun King has already addressed similar claims against him. In 2020, King addressed these past allegations in a guest article on The North Star. In the article he noted:

“I’m practically the only unpaid employee on the team.” I was never compensated for it. We raised almost a million dollars this year, and I didn’t get any salary or scholarship all year.”

The 42-year-old Kentucky resident said:

“You can look at the FEC reports.” Again, this makes our team uncomfortable at times, but we do this so that the integrity of our work is never in question and no one can accuse me of doing this work for personal gain. I’m often the first employee to arrive and the last to leave, but I do it all for free.”

The Washington Free Beacon, on the other hand, claims that King’s Grassroots Law PAC has given “approximately $56,000 to political candidates since 2021.” Meanwhile, numerous Internet commentators pointed out that the purchase of the puppy cost more than 40 thousand dollars. Grassroots Law PAC, Shaun King and Potrero Performance Dogs have yet to issue a public comment in response to the situation.
