Shehzad joined the Indian National Congress in 2008 and began his political career. He grew up idolizing Mahatma Gandhi and wanted to bring changes in the social and political dynamics of the country, so he decided to join the Congress Party. In his early days in the Congress, he worked closely with senior party officials such as Digvijaya Singh, Rajeev Shukla and Manish Tewari. He served as a member of the research team of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) media cell and was appointed as the Vice-President of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) chapter in Pune. In 2014, he was appointed as the Congress Assistant for Maharashtra and was formally trained by the Congress as the national spokesperson. In 2017, Shehzad quit the Indian National Congress due to disputes with the party. According to him, the party no longer follows any historical ideology and is only focused on the progress of the Gandhi family.
