Shemar Moore knows how to win.
Like when a star sends a bean bag flying 30 feet through the air in his backyard, burying it straight into the target. “That’s what I’m talking about, baby, yes!” exclaims the actor and Superhole Cornhole 2023 champion, showing off his skills during a recent PEOPLE shoot for this week’s issue.
At 54, the first-time dad to 21-month-old daughter Frankie (with girlfriend Jesiree Dizon) understands what it takes to make magic happen in more ways than one. “It’s skill, it’s hunger, it’s determination, it’s passion, it’s humility and a whole bunch of luck,” he says, “It’s got to be the perfect storm, and I’m a product of just that.”

Recently, the star and perennial heartthrob used that special sauce to help with the rescue FLATTENCBS police procedural that has been running since 2017, since Extinction.
“To be canceled twice in a row and to be undone twice in a row, kudos to me for blabbing on social media,” he says. “Nothing lasts forever, but I’m fighting.”
Now, Moore has re-dressed as Sergeant Hondo for Season 8. “I’m the leader of this team, which I’m very proud of,” he says.

Another source of great pride: It’s been 30 years since Moore first appeared on the small screen as a bright-eyed young actor in Young and restlesswhere he stayed for 10 years.
Soon after his daytime debut, Moore gained notoriety for dating some gorgeous superstars like Halle Berry and Toni Braxton, but he never let his dashing good looks and bachelor life get in the way. After hosting Train of the soul four years, he broke through in 2005, starring in a Tyler Perry film Diary of a Mad Black Woman and gets a regular role in the series Criminal mindswhere he stayed for 11 seasons.
As for how many seasons he thinks he’ll have FLATTEN, the star says it depends on nature.

“Everyone on FLATTEN he wants season 13. And I’m like, “You need to talk to my knees, boy. It’s not a joke,” he says with a laugh. “Hey, I’m 54. It’s not like it used to be. It’s getting harder and harder to run around and jump over cars and play the tough guy and try to keep that six pack.”
He still loves every bit of it, though. When he recently received the news that FLATTEN would live on for another season, “I partied like a rock star,” he says of hosting the cast and crew celebration. “Shutting a door and then breaking it down is a very scary, fun thing. And that’s how I live my life.”
New episodes FLATTEN premieres Fridays at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
