How did Sherri Dally die?

In the 1990s, Sherri Renee Guess Dally, a loving wife, mother of two young children, and caretaker, lived in Ventura, Ventura County, California. Her affectionate character and her innocence, by all accounts, made her the favorite in everyone’s eyes. So when she mysteriously disappeared on May 6, 1996, after informing her family that she was going to the neighborhood Target to pick up a Mother’s Day gift, many assumed something had gone wrong. Later that day, Michael Dally, Sherri’s husband, called the police to report a person missing.

Stories of a woman who allegedly worked as a security clerk at Ventura Target while wearing a tan pantsuit and blonde wig surfaced as the search for the 35-year-old man was underway. And according to witness statements, the anonymous woman handcuffed Sherri and forced her into a Nissan Altima under the pretense that she was being arrested. Before Sherry’s body was discovered on Canada Larga Road on June 1, 1996, she had been missing for over a month. The first thing the authorities saw at the scene was that the animals had already devoured her skeletal remains.

Sherri Dally suffered multiple skull and jaw fractures, which were discovered after an official autopsy, meaning she died around the same time as her disappearance. These fractures are most likely caused by a blunt object from a heavy tool being handled with great force. In addition, it was recorded that she suffered four to five serious stab wounds to the chest, which were determined to be the cause of her death.

Who killed Sherri Dally?

Michael Dally, Sherri Dally’s husband, and his lover, Diana Haun, were responsible for her heinous murder. Despite being high school sweethearts, Michael and Sherri weren’t the perfect couple many envisioned. After all, Michael ignored all of his wife’s attempts to restore her marriage and not only had numerous affairs, he loved prostitutes and often used cocaine. He even bought a separate apartment with Diana and traveled with her to Mexico in March 1996 to let her know that he no longer wanted to be married to Sherri. However, when Sherri disappeared, he played a distraught and devastated husband well, at least for a few days.

But shortly after Sherri was reported missing, friends and family reported to the police that Michael was trying to give away or sell her belongings, as if he thought she would never return. Then, instead of looking for his wife, he was seen traveling to San Juan Capistrano with Diana to repair her personal watercraft. Investigators naturally took a closer look at Michael and Diana after learning this information, which allowed them to find receipts for a Nissan rental car, a blonde wig, and a tan suit bearing Diana’s name on it. In fact, when they inquired about the car at the rental agency, they found out that Diana had returned it with several bloodstains on the seats.

When investigators went to question Diana, they found her and Michael in a relatively vulnerable situation, prompting them to be quickly charged and arrested for murder. Diana went to trial first, and her defense team argued that Michael used her love for him to trick her into killing Sherri, which was an admission in itself. In addition to the physical evidence, the co-worker said Diana informed them that she was considering sacrificing a human for a friend whose birthday was coming up and that he himself had chosen the victim. May 21 is Michael’s birthday.

Michael, on the other hand, insisted on his innocence, saying there was no way he could have been responsible because he was at work when Sherri was killed. The prosecution, however, repeated the assertions of Diana’s defense and claimed that he came up with the concept himself and that he only provoked and forced Diana to carry it out. They said Michael’s motivation was greed, as he wanted to walk away with the $50,000 payout from Sherry’s life insurance policy, as well as avoid a costly divorce and custody dispute. Finally, in April 1998, a verdict of manslaughter was entered in connection with the individual trials of Michael and Diana.
