The robbers were said to have been prompted by unconfirmed rumors about the nationality of the alleged knife attacker – and officers called it “disinformation”.

Horror clips of violent youths running through the streets, trying to fight police, burning vehicles and businesses and robbing stores are now being shared online.

One horrifying video shows the Holiday Inn Express hotel on fire as thugs wreak havoc outside.

Another shows dozens of yobs circling a police officer on O’Connell Bridge before shouting and beating him.

It comes after “absolute mayhem” broke out around midday when a boy and two girls, all under the age of six, were stabbed in the city centre.

The children were said to be queuing outside the nursery – near Gaelscoil Cóláiste Mhuire – when the attack took place.

The young man’s carer, a woman in her 30s, was also injured along with a man in his 50s before the brave hero tackled the attacker.

Five people were taken to hospital, and all but the schoolboy were kept in wards overnight while doctors treated their “serious” injuries.

The prime suspect is believed to be a naturalized Irish citizen who has lived there for 20 years, The Irish Times reports.

In the hours that followed the knife rampage, police cordoned off the scene.

But as darkness fell, protesters began clashing in the taped-off area in what police described as “crazy” behavior.

Yobs – fueled by unconfirmed online speculation about the alleged attacker’s nationality – threw bottles at officers and set a police car, bus and tram on fire.

  • Brave Deliveroo driver Caio Benicio has revealed how he fought off attackers with his helmet
  • Riots broke out in the city center in which 11 police cars, 3 buses and a tram were set on fire
  • Around 13 shops were destroyed in O’Connell Street as police tried to regain control
  • Police described the chaos as ‘a completely insane hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology’
  • Police said the two schoolgirls, aged five and six, will remain in hospital overnight
  • A five-year-old boy was discharged after a “vicious” knife attack
  • Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee said clashes “cannot and will not be tolerated”
  • Police revealed that 34 people were arrested overnight following the riots in the capital

Irish Police Commissioner Drew Harris said this morning that the rioters had taken “a handful of facts and bathed in assumptions” when they unleashed chaos on the streets, describing “disgraceful scenes”.

He said that 13 shops were destroyed in O’Connell Street and the surrounding area, while 11 police cars were set on fire.

Giving an update on the stabbing victims, he said the five-year-old girl and her teacher were still in serious condition.

He revealed the attacker’s motive remains unclear – and although a suspect has been identified, no arrests have been made.

He added: “These (riots) are scenes we haven’t seen in decades, but what is clear is that people are being radicalized through social media and the internet.

“But I don’t want to lose focus on the horrific event in terms of the horrific attack on the students and their teacher.

“A full investigation is underway. There is also a full investigation into the disturbance.”

He said last night: “We have a completely insane hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology, and also that destructive tendency is involved in serious violence.”

Ireland’s Justice Minister Helen McEntee said jail terms of up to 12 years could be imposed for the attack on the garda after the riots.

Shocking footage showed the hooligan setting fire to a cardboard box before chasing it across the road and putting it in a police vehicle.

Within seconds, the ambulance was engulfed in flames.

Another horror video shows the masked newlyweds inside a Foot Locker store with the glass shattered in the front, before they can be seen rushing out with pairs of shoes in hand.

Other clips show the robbers running through the streets with their arms full of new clothes, still on hangers.

Officers were forced to don riot gear and hold their shields high as groups fired flares and fireworks at them – while also being punched and kicked.

Young men could also be seen smashing shop windows and throwing whatever they could at shops.

Other footage shows buildings on fire – one said to be an immigration center and the other accommodation.

THE LANDS WRECK DEVASTATION

Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee said the clashes “cannot and will not be tolerated”.

She said: “A violent and manipulative element must not be allowed to use a terrible tragedy to wreak havoc.

“I would appeal for calm in the city center while An Garda Siochana carry out their work – attacks on members of An Garda Siochana must be condemned in the strongest possible terms and will be dealt with severely.”

Irish President Michael D Higgins said his thoughts were with those injured in the stabbing.

He said: “This horrific incident is a garda matter and for it to be exploited or misused by groups aiming to attack the principle of social inclusion is reprehensible and deserves the condemnation of all those who believe in the rule of law and democracy. .”

It came after witnesses said an “absolute stampede” erupted near Dublin’s Parnell Square East at around 1pm yesterday as children queued outside a nursery school.

Onlookers claimed that the young man attacked with a knife, and the nurse and passers-by tried to intervene.

A brave Deliveroo driver has told how he jumped off his motorbike and smashed the attacker with his helmet to stop the rampage.

Caio Benicio told The Journal: “I didn’t even make a decision, it was pure instinct, and it was all over in a second. He fell to the ground, I didn’t see where the knife went, and other people jumped in.

“I have two children myself, so I had to do something. I did what anyone would do.

“People were there but they couldn’t get in because he was armed, but I knew I could use my helmet as a weapon.”

‘SEVERELY INJURED’ CHILDREN

In a statement yesterday afternoon, officers said: “Preliminary indications are that a man assaulted a number of people in Parnell Square East.

“Five injured people have been taken to hospitals in the Dublin region. These victims include three small children, an adult woman and an adult man.

“One five-year-old girl has suffered serious injuries and is currently being treated at CHI Temple Street.

“A five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to CHI Crumlin for treatment. The boy has since been discharged from CHI Crumlin.

“The Garda Síochána is supporting the parents of the children.

“An adult woman in her 30s is being treated for serious injuries at Mater Hospital.

“An adult man in his 50s is also being treated for serious injuries at a hospital in the Dublin region.”

It added: “An Garda Síochána is following a line of inquiry. A man in his 50s is a person of interest to this investigation. An Garda Síochána is not looking for any other person at this time.”
