Shoppers furious over big change to iconic Cadbury chocolate in shops

SHOPPERS are furious after spotting a major change to iconic Cadbury chocolate in stores.

Fans are outraged after noticing that multipacks of Twirl bars have been reduced from four to three – while the price has remained the same.

The four-pack used to contain four sets of two Twirl fingers, with each pair weighing 34g, but now they only have three sets of two, weighing 43g per pair.

This means that the total amount of chocolate has decreased from 136g to 129g – a 5% reduction in chocolate.

However, the price remains the same at around £1.75.

Fans slammed the change from four to three, with one saying on X.com: “Just an interesting post to highlight the issue @CadburyUK.

“They’ve reduced the Twirl multipack sizes from 4×2 bars to 3×2 bars, but they’re still charging the same.

“I’m not sure about the other lines.

“Prices are skyrocketing from £1.10 to £1.75 now, which is frankly outrageous.”

Another added: “This is deflation gone too far.

“Twirl bars were already getting progressively smaller, but suddenly Cadbury have now reduced the multipack from 4 to 3 bars!

“I couldn’t believe it. I had to find a replacement.”

Meanwhile, another user on the Asda website said: “I used to buy it all the time, won’t be anymore, now you only get three. It’s disgusting, even though I haven’t dropped the price at all..”

Mondelēz International explained that the decision was made due to production issues and that there was only a “slight reduction” in the overall weight of the product.

It said: “Due to production constraints that cannot be easily resolved, we have taken the decision to switch from packs containing four smaller two-finger Cadbury Twirl bars to packs containing three full-size two-finger Cadbury Twirl bars.

“While we appreciate the slight reduction in the overall weight of our Cadbury Twirl multipacks, this move allows us to retain the twin finger proposition within our multipack offering, which is a key and much-loved feature of the Cadbury Twirl brand with our consumers.

“We remain committed to providing consumers with choice and continue to offer a range of different pack sizes within our Cadbury multipack offering.”

How to save on chocolate

We all like a little chocolate now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favorite bar.

Choose your own brand – if you’re not too concerned about taste and just want to satisfy your chocolate cravings, you’ll save money by buying own brand bars at the supermarket.

Shop – if you’ve spotted your favorite variety in the supermarket, be sure to check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites such as Trolley.co.uk allow you to compare product prices across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Watch out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow and sometimes orange and red stickers on products to show they are discounted.

They usually do this if the product is about to expire or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – usually, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the bigger the bar.

So if you have an appetite and were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

It added that it has no plans to make the same move with its other four packs of chocolates, including Wispa, Flakes and Dairy Milk.

“We have no current plans to introduce any similar packaging changes to our remaining Cadbury 4-pack range and are confident that our new Cadbury Twirl 3×2 pack will complement our existing multi-pack offering and offer great value to consumers through its unique twin. – a proposal with a finger,” reads the press release.

There are other Twirl multipacks available on the market at different price points, such as a pack of five at Aldi (total weight 107.5g) for £1.45 and a pack of 10 at all supermarkets for £3 for a total of 215g of chocolate.

Individually, the bars cost around 85p.

It’s not the first time that Cadbury has been called out for so-called shrinkflation, where products are reduced but the price remains the same.

We reported in October that family packs of Cadbury chocolate had been reduced from 216g to 207g, but the price remained the same at around £3 for 14 treats.

Recently, Cadbury was forced to pull its hot chocolate off the shelves.

Customers were hit by a shortage of drinking chocolate late last year after it was withdrawn from sale due to quality issues.

JUST because something is on sale or part of a sale doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

  • Idealo is another website that allows you to compare prices between retailers. All customers have to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from cheapest to most expensive.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods sold on Amazon. To use it, type the URL of the product for which you want to check the price.
