Shravan Rathod is an Indian music director and composer, best known for being one half of the iconic music composition duo Nadeem-Shravan. He died in April 2021 after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

Shravan made his debut in the music industry as a composer in 1972, forming the iconic duo Nadeem-Shravan with fellow music composer Nadeem Saifi. Shravan). The first composition composed by the duo was the song “Kashi hile, Patna hile” for the Bhojpuri film Dangal (1979). The song is sung by popular singer Manna Dey. In 1985, Nadeem-Shravan released his first commercial project “Star Ten”, the songs on the album were composed using bansuri, sitar and shehnai. The songs in the album are sung by famous actors such as Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. Nadeem and Shravan recorded their first independent song on Gulshan Kumar’s T-Series record label. Later, they produced an entire album for Mahesh Bhatt’s film Aashiqui. Over the years, Nadeem-Shravan has composed music for several Hindi films such as Saajan (1991), Deewana (1992), Raja (1995), Raja Hindustani (1996) , Raaz (2002) and many more. The two made more than 150 films together, but in 2005, they decided to separate and Shravan focused on building a career for his son in the Hindi film industry.

On April 19, 2021, Shravan Rathod tested positive for Covid-19 and was hospitalized in Mumbai. Unfortunately, he passed away on April 22, 2021 due to multiple organ failure and cardiac arrest. His son Sanjeev confirmed the news, saying:
My father tested positive after visiting the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. We never imagined that our family would go through such a difficult time, my father passed away, I am COVID-positive and so is my mother. My brother was also positive and was in home quarantine but since our father passed away, he was allowed to do the final procedures and perform the last rites of our father. ”
Facts/Trivia
- Sheravan was a spiritual and religious person at heart and practiced meditation. He believes this helps him be more productive.
- Shravan said in an interview that his subconscious brain is always making up the rhythm for the music, and then he writes the music down. He revealed in the interview that because of this, the two have prepared more than a thousand songs over the years.
- In 1990, Nadeem-Shravan faced difficulties with his compositions as none of the songs became super hits. To earn money, Shravan decided to start a ready-made garments business called ‘Composers Collection’.
- The two served as music directors for the 2002 thriller “Raaz”. The music they created was even admired by British singer, musician, filmmaker and songwriter Sir Paul McCartney.
