She often went to the theater with her parents, where she developed an interest in acting. She decided from an early age that she wanted to be an actress. When Tripathi was in her final year of college, she attended many acting workshops. She worked as a photo editor for Femina magazine. She even cut trailers at the Pixion trailer house before entering showbiz.

Shweta started her acting career in 2009 in Disney Channel’s Kya Mast Hai Life, where she played a tomboy character, Zenia Khan. She then appeared in Bindass’ “The Trip”. Next, she starred in the film Zoo, India’s first feature film shot entirely on an iPhone. Thereafter, she starred in the crime thriller web series Mirzapur.
In 2015, she made her acting debut with the film Masaan, in which she played the role of Shaalu Gupta. Shweta then acted opposite Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the film Haramkhor.
