Siddharth Roy Kapur

Siddharth Roy Kapur is an Indian film producer. He is the founder and managing director of Roy Kapur Films and chairman of the Film and Television Producers Guild of India. He is the husband of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan.

Siddharth Roy Kapur was born on Friday, August 2, 1975 in Mumbai (now Mumbai) (49 years old; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Leo. He studied at GD Somani Memorial School in Mumbai and then went to Sydenham College to pursue a bachelor’s degree in commerce. He had excellent academic performance as a student and was the president of the school’s student union. While in college, Siddharth headed the Drama Society and edited the annual college magazine. While in college, he had a summer internship at Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV. After graduation, Kapoor did his Masters in Management Studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai.

Siddharth married his childhood friend Aarti Bajaj, but their marriage did not last long. He then tied the knot with TV producer Kavita. However, the two divorced in 2011. Siddharth married Bollywood actress Vidya Balan on December 14, 2012.

Siddharth’s grandfather Raghupat Roy Kapur was a film producer. His maternal grandfather, Sam, and paternal grandmother, Ruby Aaron, were teachers of Indian ballroom and Latin American dance forms.

Siddharth Roy Kapur started his career as a Brand Manager at Procter & Gamble in Mumbai. He then joined Star TV’s strategic planning department. He then traveled to Hong Kong to participate in Star TV’s News Corporation executive development program. Thereafter, he moved to Mumbai and worked in marketing for the gaming reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. He subsequently served as regional marketing manager for the network. In 2002, he moved to Hong Kong again and was promoted to vice president a year later. He was the youngest vice president of Star TV at the time. From the Hong Kong headquarters, Kapoor leads the central marketing and creative services teams.

In 2005, he was invited to join UTV as senior vice president of marketing and communications, which he gladly accepted. While with UTV, Siddharth led the marketing team for several films, including “Rang De Basanti” and “Khosla Ka Ghosla”.

In January 2008, Kapoor took over as CEO of UTV Motion Pictures. He is responsible for all aspects of development, production, marketing, distribution and syndication. Under his leadership, he produced some of the most successful films of the decade, including Taare Zameen Par, Jodhaa Akbar, Fashion, Paan Singh Tomar, Kai Po Che, The Lunchbox and “Chennai Express.” In 2014, he was promoted to Managing Director of Disney India.

In 2017, Siddharth resigned from Disney and established his own production company, Roy Kapur Films. The first film he produced was “The Sky Is Pink.” He also produced the Netflix series Yeh Ballet.

  • As a child, Siddharth was obsessed with movies. He revealed in an interview that his grandparents lived near the Strand Cinema in Mumbai and he used to urge them and his mother to go watch the movie. He also revealed that he often forced his parents to buy him black tickets.
  • In 1994, Siddharth interned at a small production studio in the basement of Worli, Mumbai, under the guidance of Ronnie Screwvala. During that period, his income was Rs. 2000 a month.
