Bell, who was 14 years old at the time, decided to apply for a scholarship to the Alvin Ailey School after realizing the need to expand her horizons in the dance industry. Bell said: “Dance has always been woven into the fabric of my existence. “When I was at Yale University, that’s when I started thinking about leadership and whether I could have a company and an education, and how I could bring dance to the community as a leader.” Cider Bell Dance New York, his non-profit organization founded in 2001 and approaching his 20th anniversary.
Bell is now creating his debut work for the New York City Ballet stage, drawing inspiration from three noted composers: Nicholas Britell, Oliver Davis and Dosija McKay.
