Simone Tata is an Indian businesswoman. She is the founder of Lakme, India’s number one cosmetics brand. She joined Lakme at an early age and is still credited with its initial success. She is a senior member of the Tata family and the founder of the successful Tata business Trent.

Profession
She began her career in India in 1961 by joining the Board of Directors of Lakme Ltd. With her hard work and dedication, she became the Managing Director of Lakme in 1964. After 18 years of work, she finally became Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1982. It was her efforts that made Lakme India’s leading cosmetics company. After Lakme proved her mettle, she was also appointed as a director of Tata Industries Ltd., Asia’s largest private conglomerate. The conglomerate she leads owns more than 91 companies in different industries. In 1996, she sold it to Hindustan Lever Limited. Afterwards, she founded another company, Trent, which operated department stores called Westside. She founded Westside in 1998 with a single store in Bangalore, and now the brand has more than 200 stores across major cities in India, with over 22 brands, all made in-house. Apart from contributing to Tata’s business activities, she also maintains links with social organizations and initiates charity work. She also serves as the Chairman of the Sir Ratan Tata Institute, succeeding her husband Naval Tata. She is also one of the founder trustees of World Children’s India Trust.
