Sister Wives' Janelle Brown Confirms She's Hired a Lawyer amid Ongoing Coyote Pass Sale Drama with Kody

Janelle Brown is taking steps to protect her portion of the Flagstaff, Ariz., property she shares with her ex, Kody Brown.

In the new episode of the series Sister wives which premiered Sunday, Jan. 19, Janelle breaks the news to her ex-sister’s wife, Christine Brown, that she’s hired a lawyer to protect her share of Coyote Pass. She shares the news during a video call that also features Christine’s husband, David Woolley, and Janelle and Kody’s daughter, Madison.

“Okay, so actually the question I’ve been wanting to ask you and I’ve been dying to ask… Coyote Pass,” says Christine, who was the first to leave a polygamous marriage in November 2021.

Janelle replies, “I was going to tell you, yes, I actually hired a lawyer. I found one and I put the holder down, and I’m actually going to go for asset separation. You know what I mean? Like that’s really all I can do.”

As Christine nods her head in agreement, Janelle continues, “Nothing’s happening. I asked Kody, like, what about sales? What about all that stuff? He says, ‘Well, I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe you should talk to Meri.’ It’s like he’s always rejecting me.”

Janelle then confirms that the estate has finally been paid off, which was a major concern of hers in previous episodes. That initially led her to consider getting a lawyer since Kody wasn’t taking the potential sale “seriously,” she claimed in the September 2024 episode.

In the confessional clip, she adds: “I’m like, man, let’s sell it, let’s share it – however we’re going to do it. But those are just crickets. Just whatever.”

During the video call, she points out to the group that Kody keeps “dismissing” me every time she asks about selling real estate. She claims that he told her to call Meri (who has confirmed that she is splitting from Kody in January 2023) to see if she is on board with the idea.

“In any case, I will have a lawyer who is not emotionally involved. Just come in and say what we’re suggesting,” says Janelle.

He then goes into an analysis of how the assets are currently divided and how Meri would be disadvantaged if the assets were sold at that time.

“So we own a total of about 14 acres in Coyote Pass. What’s it called — if we sold it right now — Meri would be compensated for about an acre and a half out of the whole 14,” she says.

Earlier in the episode, Meri told a friend about how Kody once told her she wasn’t “entitled” to an equal share of Coyote Pass because she only had one child with Kody.

Janelle continues, “This whole conversation really hinges on Kody. He is the one who is in all the headlines. He is the one who has to make changes in ownership. Will you show up and share them fairly? What are we doing? Because he is very kind. He says something and then doesn’t hear from him forever. I don’t know… there’s no guarantee he’ll be kind.”

Later in the episode, Kody tells his realtor that he plans to split the money equally when they sell the lot, despite his ex-wives believing otherwise.

“When we sell, I will divide the money into four parts. My wife, me and two exes. I think they’re worried about whether or not I’m going to be fair, because divorce just destroys all trust. But I will.”

While Janelle, Christine and Meri have left their once-multiple relationships, Robyn Brown is the only wife still married to Kody. In December 2023, she expressed that she felt “abandoned” by her sisters’ ex-husbands.

Meanwhile, Janelle and Kody haven’t been on the best of terms since they confirmed their split in December 2022.

Sister wives airs Sundays at 10pm ET on TLC.
