Sister Wives: Meri Brown Claims Ex Kody Blames Her for Being Unable to 'Show His Affection to Robyn'

Thanksgiving looked very different for the Brown family in 2023 after patriarch Kody Brown’s big breaks with Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown.

For Kody, it evoked both positive and negative emotions.

“This is the first Thanksgiving that Robyn and I have with just our kids,” Kody, 55, said in a confessional interview during Sunday’s Oct. 6 episode. Sister wives. “We’ve never had this before.”

Janelle (55) and Christine (52) celebrated the holiday in November together with their children. As for Meri, the 53-year-old owner of Lizzie’s Heritage Inn decided to spend it alone, extending an invitation to Robyn Brown to join her and her children with Kody for the occasion.

“I had some tentative plans to take a trip to California over Thanksgiving, but that fell through,” Meri told the cameras. “Robyn reached out and asked if I wanted to go there for Thanksgiving, and I’m not going to. It’s just weird.”

While Kody noted that “it was a pleasant experience” when Meri joined him, Robyn and their children last year despite their strained marriage, he believed his first wife’s presence was a major problem.

“Robyn and I don’t act like a married couple when my other wives are around,” he said.

“We didn’t act like a married couple with Meri in our presence. That’s mostly down to Robyn,” he continued. “To be fair, it’s because Robyn is very sensitive to other people. She wants to be very careful with their feelings. So when Meri is there with us at our Thanksgiving, I’m not close with Meri. And now, I’m not close with Robyn because Meri is a gift and Robyn wants to be sensitive to Meri.”

Sharing a similar sentiment, Meri (who ended up getting sick on vacation) said she “heard Kody say over and over how embarrassing it is that I’m even there because you can’t show the love and adoration Robyn wants.”

“And I won’t stop it,” she continued. “I’m not a family member. I just really don’t want to be the third wheel in Robyn and Kody’s house.”

Janelle later said on camera that she was “surprised” to learn that Meri didn’t spend Thanksgiving with Kody and Robyn because it was different than usual. But Janelle still hoped Meri would at least be with “someone,” adding: “I think Meri deserves a lot more and I think it’s time for her to do something different. I’ve thought that for a while and she’s still here.”

Reflecting on what it was like to spend Thanksgiving without all of his brood, Kody admitted that he “really struggles in a lot of ways” with how “small” the gathering was amid family estrangement, noting that it was “just the seven of us.” .

“It’s quiet. I feel safe. By safe I just mean we all respect each other,” he explained. “Ten years ago, I was sure about everyone, but they weren’t sure about each other. In many ways, that shows me the dysfunction of just the basics in a polygamous marriage.”

However, Kody still missed being with his full family, saying, “I want my other kids in my life. I don’t know how to do that. I believe I’m grateful for the faith and I hope things get better in the future.”
