Meri Brown reflects on how far her marriage has fallen as she recalls her happy memories with Kody Brown.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek of Sunday’s episode Sister wivesMeri recalls the early days of her marriage to the Brown family patriarch and the “disappointing” way they drifted apart.
“I know the person he was when we got married. I know we were a couple,” says the 52-year-old inn owner as moments from their 1990 wedding flash on the screen.

As a montage of the ceremony continues to play, her sisters-in-law, Christine and Janelle Brown, recall watching the happy couple from the outside looking in. They share that Kody’s treatment of Meri was a big motivating factor in their decision to join the plural marriage.
“I was 18 when I met Kody and Meri, they were so sweet and everyone wanted to be around them,” says Christine, reflecting on their marriage in the confessional. “They were the ‘it couple’. He was so charming with her and just sweet with her. That’s why I got interested in Kody because he treated Mera so well and I said, ‘Yeah, sign me up for that.'”
Janelle agrees with Christine’s perspective on Mera and Kody’s marriage and explains the importance of putting together a multiple relationship with a strong foundation in her own conversation with the cameras.

“When you come into a family as a multiple woman, you’re looking to see how the relationships that came before you are because you’re not going to get into a relationship if the man can’t manage his family already,” she reveals. “Why would you sign up for that? It’s like, all kinds of danger signs.”
“When I came into the family, Kody and Meri — they were in love, affectionate, connected. They did things together. They were always together, they were definitely a couple,” adds Janelle.
Although she and Kody have drifted apart, Meri admits that she is “proud of myself” and “the person that I am.”
“It’s just sad to me that he couldn’t see that there was value in three decades of history,” she says of Kody’s lack of interest in working on their marriage.

The reality star says that her future in a polygamous marriage is unclear, and she weighs the options in front of the cameras.
Meri says she could “stay” and “continue to live life in this family”, not as a “wife”, but as a “family member”. On the other hand, she could “cut it off completely” and stay in Flagstaff now that Kody has “made it clear that there’s no point in hoping” they reconcile.
“There’s a lack of real interest,” Kody says in the flashback, to which Meri responds. “Not from my side.”
“Fuck him. He is not worth it,” she said in front of the cameras.

‘Sister Wives’ Meri Brown ‘Builds A Great Life’ & ‘Do Whatever The Hell I Want’ After Kody Split
Back in January, the former couple publicly addressed the split in a statement via Mera’s Instagram. In it, the owner of the bed and breakfast noted that she had “no animosity toward Kody.”
Mary’s marriage is not the only one Sister wives a split that has occurred in recent years. Christine was the first to leave her polygamous marriage in November 2021. Janelle also revealed that she split from Kody in 2022 during One on one conversations. Robyn Brown is the last sister wife to remain married to Kody.
