Star Wars: Skeleton Crew just released its final episode, but the best part of Star Wars’ newest story hasn’t yet been told. Skeleton Crew was a brilliant addition to Star Wars movies and TV shows, introducing a host of new characters, planets, and concepts that felt innovative and new while still feeling like classic Star Wars. Among Skeleton Crew’s planets was the kids’ home planet of At Attin, which was revealed to be a Jewel of the Old Republic, containing ‘eternal’ treasure.
To protect the planet and its treasure, At Attin had been surrounded by an impenetrable barrier, keeping the planet both hidden and, should someone manage to locate it, impossible to enter. The Skeleton Crew ending saw this Barrier torn down, which allowed the New Republic to swoop in and save the day but also made the planet more vulnerable than it’s been in generations. The story of what comes next for At Attin, and how the planet and its inhabitants will now engage with the galaxy, is the story I really want to see.
At Attin’s Role In The Galaxy Just Became So Much More Interesting
The Barrier Is Now Down, So What Happens Next?
At Attin was a fascinating mystery from the very beginning, but with the Barrier now down, At Attin has become so much more interesting. The Skeleton Crew finale cut off just as the pirates had been defeated and the New Republic was flying away, but what does that mean for the long term? Now, At Attin has no protection from outsiders, and its location is at least known by the New Republic and a group of pirates, raising questions about who else may know about the planet and be on their way.
In addition to the outside threat, the Barrier being taken down will undoubtedly change life on At Attin as well. For the kids’ entire lives, they were kept safe and a bit naive within the Barrier. They had no knowledge of Order 66 or the Galactic Civil War, and they didn’t even know all that much about their planet—the adults included. The first few episodes of Skeleton Crew also made it clear that the citizens of At Attin were highly regimented and surveilled. It is thrilling to wonder what will happen, especially now that the Supervisor has also been destroyed.
The Barrier being taken down will undoubtedly change life on At Attin as well.
Wim looking up longingly at the New Republic ships also heavily hinted that his aspirations will now lead him there, to join the New Republic in adulthood (although his time with them would be limited, given the events of the sequels). This suggests that the assessment, which determines the kids’ roles on At Attin, could be done away with. While I loved seeing the first 8 episodes of Skeleton Crew, the fate of and next steps for this planet are what really have my attention.
Star Wars Could Use Skeleton Crew Season 2 To The Whole Franchise’s Advantage
This Could Be The Perfect Opportunity To Explore The New Republic
This change to the Barrier in the Skeleton Crew finale could also be of benefit to Star Wars in general, especially some of the upcoming Star Wars shows and Star Wars’ upcoming movies, such as The Mandalorian & Grogu. Star Wars has grown increasingly focused on the New Republic era, and multiple Star Wars projects are already confirmed to be set in that era, just as Skeleton Crew was. The difference, however, is that no one on At Attin has any idea what has transpired in recent years or how the New Republic functions.

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.
Star Wars could use a potential Skeleton Crew season 2 to explore the New Republic in a way that would otherwise feel forced by organically depicting contacts from the New Republic explaining to those on At Attin, such as Fara, all that has taken place over the last few years, the way the New Republic’s governmental system operates, any potential threats or issues, etc. In fact, Fara already feels like she would fit right in alongside characters like Mon Mothma. This would be a brilliant way to naturally provide more insight into this era.
Skeleton Crew Season 2 Has To Happen
There Is So Much Left To Explore In This Story
Skeleton Crew season 2 hasn’t yet been confirmed, but my hopes are high that another season is coming. There is still so much of this story left to explore, and the future of At Attin is just one part. The show certainly deserves another season, not only because of these open-ended questions but also because the characters were downright brilliant. It remains to be seen what will happen next for Jod Na Nawood and the kids, but that is something I’m very hopeful we get to see.

Even if no other season comes, Skeleton Crew is easily among Star Wars’ best TV shows. This show honored the original messages and meaning of Star Wars, from the idea that there is always hope to the fact that heroes can come from anywhere and be anyone. I’m nevertheless still hopeful that Star Wars will renew Star Wars: Skeleton Crew for a second season and we will finally know what becomes of At Attin and its citizens.
