Slipknot's Corey Taylor Calls Dave Grohl's Baby Announcement '100% Messy' but Says Rocker Is a 'Nice Person'

Corey Taylor is pleading with music fans to give Dave Grohl some grace amid news that he fathered a child out of wedlock.

Days after Grohl, 55, made the announcement in a heartfelt statement on Instagram, Taylor, 50, addressed the controversy in the Sept. 25 issue. Your mom’s house podcast, hosted by Tom Segura and his wife Christina Pazsitzky.

“It’s so messy, 100% messy. I know Dave Grohl. He’s one of the nicest people on the planet,” the Slipknot frontman said.

Taylor said “mistakes were made” and believes the Foo Fighters rocker shared the news publicly on September 10, “because he wanted to pre-empt it”.

“He wanted to preempt it because he knew that if he didn’t say something, someone else would say something… it’s called controlling the narrative,” he said. “He overtook.”

“You know, I will say this: Obviously, it’s very irresponsible. I know there’s a lot of disappointed fans out there because of the image he’s developed,” Taylor continued. “But I have to remind people that we’re not perfect. He was one of the last people who really had that image.”

Noting that his opinion could be “very controversial,” Taylor added: “What’s going on doesn’t mean he’s not a good person because I happen to know him as a person. It means he’s got some fucking problems and he’s fucking He’s not perfect for his family.”

Taylor said he’s “not going to make any assumptions” about Grohl’s secret child discovery and hopes the news won’t be “the one thing that defines him.”

While Grohl didn’t give details about his new daughter, including when she was born or her name, he did reveal that it’s a girl and he plans to “be a loving and supportive parent to her.”

“I love my wife and my children and am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We are grateful for your consideration for all the children involved as we move forward together,” his statement continued.

In addition to his new baby girl, Grohl is father to daughters Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, who he shares with longtime wife Jordyn Blum.

A source told PEOPLE that Blum, 48, had known about Grohl’s baby “for a while.” Another insider added that she was “shocked” when she found out about the baby” and that “her friends are like family and have rallied around her.”
