The fans took to the field in protest against the club’s ownership and refused to leave the playing field, causing the game to be abandoned.

However, fans were critical of Sky’s Soccer Saturday’s on-pitch coverage after presenter Simon Thomas described the protests as “tennis balls on the pitch”.

Football Saturday legend Stelling then took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and fired up his former employers about the Saturday afternoon coverage.

Stelling said: “When a club that has been in the PL recently is in a position, they are in this story of the day imo (in my opinion).

“Why [is there] no journalists? Everyone knew there would be a protest!”

One user called out Stelling for being a former employee “who left but still wants to influence how things are done.”

However, Stelling responded: “I’m not Andy. I’m a member of the public with a right to express an opinion.”

SunSport has approached Sky for comment.

Reading owner Dai Yongge has been the subject of heavy criticism during his time in charge of the club.

The Royals face relegation to League Two due to their precarious position in the League One table.

They were given numerous fines for financial mismanagement, including a deduction of four points for late payment of wages.

Reading is anchored by 16 POINTS under Yongge’s ownership.
