Before pursuing an acting career in India, Sonia worked at a start-up finance company in New York. In an interview, she revealed that she had dreamed of becoming an actor since she was a child, and said:
I’ve wanted to be an actor since I was a kid. But then we all grew up and went to college and we were like ‘Oh, this is reality, maybe I should go into finance. ‘That’s what I do. I worked in finance and marketing and got a job in New York. I did that for a year and then I got bored with the job so I started taking acting classes. I started my own dance company. Then one fine day I quit my job. My mom and dad said, “We’re not going to let you go to India unless you can get a full-time job in New York.” So I got a full-time job in New York and then came here. ”
