SEGA teases the release window for Sonic Prime‘s new episodes. The animated series, based on the popular Sonic the Hedgehog video games, premiered on Netflix back in December and follows the titular character as he searches to restore the Paradox Prism. After breaking the artifact in a confrontation with Dr. Eggman, Sonic finds himself in an alternate dimension and realizes that pieces of the Prism now exist across what is known as the Shatterverse. Deven Mack voices Sonic the Hedgehog and is joined by a cast of actors that include Brian Drummond, Ashleigh Ball, Adam Nurada, Shannon Chan-Kent, and Ian Hanlin.
Eight episodes were released as part of Sonic Prime season 1, introducing audiences to its world and to characters such as Big the Cat and Froggy, but many are eager to find out what happens next.
In a recent tweet from Sonic the Hedgehog‘s official account, it was announced that more episodes will premiere sometime in 2023. A specific time frame was not given, only that Sonic Prime will return “later this year.”
What To Expect From Sonic Prime’s New Episodes
Sonic Prime last saw the Chaos Council attempt to master the Shatterverse, while Sonic and the variants of his friends in No Place battled Rusty. After acquiring and making contact with another piece of the Paradox Prism, Sonic suddenly appeared before Shadow, who asserted that there is no more “home” to go back to. With new episodes on the way, it seems likely Sonic Prime will introduce even more universes and variants of Knuckles, Tails, and others as Sonic continues to try and fix what happened.
Other important elements of Sonic Prime‘s first eight episodes were the versions of Dr. Eggman in New Yoke City. Tails Nine was reluctant to help the Chaos Council in their efforts, and after they threatened him and prepared to eliminate Sonic, Nine reminded them that he would be needed alive. Since Sonic has proven to have some sort of power that they do not understand, the Council will want to use him, suggesting that he may have a bigger fight against them in the episodes ahead. In addition to that, it should be interesting to see if Sonic and Shadow work together, and if the latter helps in the conflict surrounding the Council.
Sonic Prime will reportedly have 24 episodes altogether, so if it were to release another 8 this year, there should be a third installment in the future. Since its premiere, the show has garnered relatively positive reviews, especially from audiences, and as the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise continues to gain popularity, there could be even more shows down the line. With the Shatterverse and all of the visually distinct worlds, it will be exciting to see where the new episodes take Sonic and what other kind of variants exist. It will also be interesting to see how close the Paradox Prism gets to being restored, and if that issue persists throughout the entire show. Those who have been enjoying all of the Sonic the Hedgehog content can look forward to more Sonic Prime when it comes out this year.
