Sonja Morgan Was ‘Scared’ When Daughter Quincy Went Instagram Official but Is ‘So Proud of Her’ (Exclusive)

Sonja Morgan is used to being in the spotlight as she has been on reality TV for over 13 years. But seeing his daughter Quincy Adams Morgan in public was not so easy.

“I was afraid when she would go public because I always just wanted to protect her,” Sonja tells PEOPLE about her 23-year-old daughter, who published her private Instagram back in March 2021. “Obviously, we talked about it before it happened. she did, but I just didn’t want her to get all the attention that comes with being like that. This isn’t for everyone!”

But Quincy shined on social networks, notes Sonja. “Kids are interested in the ‘Gram,’ the content and the number of followers they have,” she says. “And Quincy, she’s become an influencer in her own right. She’s had quite a following and she’s gained a large following. I mean, now she’s getting paid to appear! So she’s out there, doing it.”

The The Real Housewives of New York The alumni’s only daughter, who she shares with 93-year-old American financier and JP Morgan heir John Adams Morgan, currently lives in Los Angeles after graduating with the highest honors from the University of Pennsylvania.

– I am so proud of her – says Sonja. “She’s in Hollywood, but she works in finance in the entertainment business, so I spend more time out there every now and then when I can book something. My other best friend is there, Josh Flagg, so I get to see them both.”

“She is simply a wonderful girl, so smart and so beautiful,” continues Sonja. “And so funny. She made some memes recreating some of my moments [from RHONY] for Mother’s Day a few years ago, and it was hilarious. It was a wonderful gift. I just love her.”

When asked if Sonja can see Quincy following her in front of the cameras, The Sonja in your city the star destroys the concept. “I’m working on myself right now!” she laughs. “One thing at a time!”

For her part, Quincy doesn’t seem interested in becoming a reality star anytime soon. Discussing why she never showed up RHONY during her mom’s 11 seasons on the Bravo series, Quincy said S’More Date in August 2022 that “It was none of my business.”

“I knew I wanted a corporate career,” she said. “I’m not a public speaker. I’m not someone who likes attention, except in my private life. I was a very geeky kid. And I’m still a geeky kid. And that should always come first.”

Sonja, who was married to Quincy’s dad from 1998 to 2006, always supported the choice, Quincy said. “Everything she does, she does with me in mind,” said the influencer. “She is a very protective woman and has always chosen to keep me private.”

On the other hand, Quincy stood by her mother’s decision to share her life with reality TV. “I thought, ‘Do whatever you want,'” Quincy noted. – I am always proud of her, always.

Sonja is back on TV this week, at Peacock’s Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: RHONY Legacywhich sees her and her Crappie Lake actress Luann de Lesseps reunites with former actresses Dorinda Medley, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Ramona Singer and Kristen Taekman for a trip to St. Barth’s.

“We’re having a lot of fun,” Sonja tells PEOPLE of the getaway. “It was so nice to be back together with my girls and Kristen, who I don’t see nearly enough. It’s a good chance for us all to relax and have some fun. And maybe there’s a pirate or two, just saying!”
