Sonya Eddy received a posthumous Daytime Emmy Award, almost a year after her death on December 19, 2022 at the age of 55.
The actress won Best Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series on Friday night for her work on General Hospital. Eddy’s producing partner and friend, Tyler Ford, was on hand to accept the honor.
“Well, it’s bittersweet to accept these flowers. But I know Sonya would only enjoy the sweet,” he said.
Ford thanked General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini “for being a loyal friend” and credited the show’s cast and crew “for embracing her for 16 years.”

“I want to thank the Academy for recognizing her contribution and skill. Sonya never wanted to be an actress,” he said. “And while her talent was undeniable, I’m sure she was more than happy to be remembered for how she made people feel on and off the screen.”
Eddy played nurse Epiphany Johnson on the long-running soap opera that began in 2006. Her last episode was on October 20, 2022. The soap’s official account at xformally known as Twitter, congratulated the actress shortly after the award was announced.

News of her death was announced by Octavia Spencer on Instagram last year.
“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. She will be missed by her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans 💔🕊️ My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends and fans,” she wrote in December. Fast 20. 2022.
Shortly after, Valentini released a statement to PEOPLE about her death.

“I am heartbroken at the loss of the amazing Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her, not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the center of the nursing station will be a little dimmer now, but her spirit and light will live on both in the show and on our set. In the name of the whole GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and fans. We will miss him very much,” his statement reads.
